I just purchased an undercover flex as well for my 2016 Tacoma Limited. Unfortunately, I have not been able to keep water out of the bed. The water seeps in from the bulkhead seal and also from the side seals. I have not installed the two tubes, however. To install the two tubes, did you have to drill completely through the bed, or just the liner? Also, the installer removed the four bed tie downs and I have not been able to attach them to the rails because they now contain the railing system for the flex. Any luck in doing so?

There is no liner in a Tacoma bed. The bed is fully composite. You can just drill through. I drilled through the back bed walls of my last 2 Tacomas so that I wouldn't pinch the hoses if I slid something to the back.

My poor choice of words. When I stated liner I was referring to the composite bed. when I inserted a probe in one of the two holes in the bottom of the bed, the probe only went to a depth of 1-2 inches before striking the frame. Did you end up drilling all the way through or just enlarged the hole in the bottom of the bed? Also, do you have any comment to make regarding the tie downs?

I think the tie downs need to be installed during the process in which the mounts for the side rails are installed. As in slide in a mount, then tie down, then mount, etc. So that way they are there, but in between the mounts in the rail. NOTE I could be totally wrong, but that's how it is with others.

If you needed to remove the whole cover, how easy would it be? I want something to cover my bed, low profile and removed in a minute or 2 when I want to throw my dirt bikes in the back of the truck. I'd prefer to see them in the mirror in case they start leaning over or anything.

I got mine installed a couple weeks back and been getting very little water in the bed when I wash it (and I soak the truck pretty well when I do wash it). Currently I just tucked the hoses under the bed mat and it can drain out, but I got to cut the bed mat later to run the hoses out the factory drain plugs. As for gas mileage, I didn't see much of an increase. And you do lose the ability to use the bed rail cleats.

I installed mine over a week ago. Going to Home Depot to look for something in the plumbing dept that can be used as a reducer for the drain hose so that I do not have to drill the hole any larger in the bed. However, I am glad to hear that I would not be drilling through metal if I did had to drill.

Great posts. Thank you all. My questions were answered. The idea of going to Home Depot for a reducer is one that I will pursue. P.S., the installer informed me I would have to open up the cover to install the tie downs and leave it open while the tie downs were installed. He said he tried to install them and then lower the cover but there was interference with the top of the tie downs when closing the cover completely. My next step is to back to the retailer and have him show me.

Someone needs to manufacture some custom tie downs that fit with all covers.

These would work if you get the right size that would thread into the sliding piece that goes in the track.

I think another tonneau cover company does make them...can't remember who though. If I can find it I'll let y'all know.

I went to Home depot today to look for something that could be used to reduce the size of the tube so that no drilling would be needed. I found a thinner hose that would slide inside the one provided by Undercover Flex and then would have slipped into the hole in the bed. However, then I thought... WTF am I doing? The bed is composite. I am not drilling through metal. What is the big deal? So, I went home and drilled out the holes a little wider. It is no big deal. You are not ruining your bed. Just do it. Stop overthinking this thing. This is the cleanest look plus the flow of water will be best without having a pinch point. Just drill out the holes.

Nice cover... how have you been liking it now that you've had it for a bit?

I love it and super happy with it. The cover doesn't leak much when I wash the truck, but when I take it to the car wash, it did leak a lot from the pressure shooting at it. I added 1/4" insulation strips and it's pretty much water tight now.

I'm looking to buy the Undercover or Bakflip tonneau covers however I have not heard what the height of the bed is with this installed. Wondering if some of my equipment will fit with the tonneau cover down.

    Thank you in advance.
