Looks great! I got the same version, but have not yet installed. Did you have a template to drill the holes?

Yes, what I did was leveled the bed extender by putting books underneath, (who knew reading would come in handy!) then I slid the template behind the mounting plate, taped the template to the truck, made sure the tailgate would close, and drilled.

Awesome, I got the template for the 2nd gen truck, not sure if they were the same. I will use your method.

Just curious, was your template specific to 3rd gen trucks? If so you mind sharing it :)

@axe, if you don't mind, could you take a picture standing in the bed looking straight down at the extender? Also, could you measure from the front of the bed to the center of the extender and let us know the distance?

Great job by the way, it looks really good!

    Thank you!

It was the 2nd Gen template, I'm not even sure if it would've been the same height -wise, I figured it was easier to get it where I wanted it and then just line up the brackets to the "x"s on the template.

This is the gap I left between the bed and the extender, you could get it a little closer if you wanted to.Screenshot_2016-02-07-14-46-22.jpg

Do those straps hook into the tailgate like they do on the gen 2's?

@stan23 I don't know if you already installed yours, but I thought I'd give you and others preparing for installation a heads up on the AMP templates. I noticed this when installing my Bedxtender HD Max today (which, other than the template problem, is great). The template that came with my instructions from AMP was printed out or copied at a slightly reduced size, meaning all the holes would have been off had I used that provided template. I had downloaded and printed my own template from their site, otherwise I wouldn't have drilled them correctly. More information is in a thread I posted in the garage forum here.

You can see the difference in hole position between my correct printout (unscaled when I did the PDF printout, confirmed with a ruler and with the bracket) and the AMP provided copy behind it in the photo below.

Thanks for letting us know about that! I just ordered my AMP HD Bed extender the other day and I would have just used the included template... now I know I shouldn't do that.

I don't know if they are all going to have that problem (I've mailed AMP customer support as well to warn them) but it's a potentially big problem from a small mistake. I suppose you could also just lay the bracket over your template to double check, but it's worth printing from the PDF for other reasons. I used it to print out two copies of the template and used those to pre-mount the brackets. I put clear packing tape over the templates to fully secure them to the bed and then used clear double sided mounting tape to mount the brackets. This let me "preview" the placement and actually mount the extender and rotate it to make sure I had the positioning correct.

Many Many thanks! I have not yet installed mine - I do have the template from Toyota's website and it seems to line up well on the '16, so I may just use that.
