One of the tires was out of round. Took a 3rd visit to America's tire for them to figure it out. It now drives a lot better but still a little shimmy at the wheel that might be due to the aggressive thread pattern(KO2's).

No update. Was supposed to hear about my safety issue (the vibration causing numbness in hands and arms on long trips) "within 30 days" and haven't heard a peep....

I can always hope that they might have a fix/TSB coming; however, I'm starting to think not and may need to consider filing a complaint with the NTSB, which is not what I set out to do...I just wanted a truck I could drive more than locally....sad; however, I'm starting to research replacement options to a greater degree.....

If its not too much trouble, I'd just file it. I'm still not convinced they're going to act on this issue until lawyers/government comes asking questions. And I definitely feel for you, having lived in Flag for a few years, only being able to drive even just 50 miles at a time gets you to... Sedona? Not that Sedona isn't great, especially at this time of year when its usually a bit warmer, but still your options are limited.

I’m surprised you haven't back yet.

I found that article a while back and think the author was probably writing about the driveline shudder. Granted, that still seems to be present on some 2016s. I know it’s slightly there on mine. Nonetheless, it is still not good that some trucks now have both the buzzing vibrations and the driveline vibrations. Perhaps the author hadn’t put enough miles on for it to start. Yet the two Limiteds I drove recently, brand new, had it right off the bat?

I did read another thread poll in which the OP reached out to his Toyota engineering friend: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/poll-are-you-having-transmission-vibration-issues.415712/page-3. The conversation mentioned that the direct injection fuel pump may be the culprit, which contradicts the exhaust manifold hypothesis offered by the product engineers that spoke with @Doobiewah. Of note, though, is that the engineer in this other thread said they are getting the feedback and the sales push to re-design this on future models—not fix it on current models. Who knows.

I remain perplexed by the variance in owner experiences on this. Some don't seem to have it, some have it minor, and some have it bad—across all trims. If I could have a career "do-over," I would have been a mechanical engineer. Would have enjoyed tackling stuff like this on cars—especially investigating the source and coming up with engineering solutions.

Toyota corporate from Torrence California called me last night. Gave me the usual song and dance. In the end without admitting anything suggested that I/we all hang in there a little longer. Keep calling. Keep reporting at every trip to dealer. I know it sucks but I'm going to try and hold on...

So I am back to being optimistic.

I crawled under the truck today and was looking at the exhaust system. Tapping around for resonances, I noticed a bunch of the heat shields near the exhaust are extremely resonant. They have a very buzzy, slow decay response to tapping. For my truck, the long heatshield on the passenger side under the front door is really notable. Just a tap to it gives a slow decay buzz that feels very much like what I get in the steering / gas pedal. Scooting around to the driver side, the heat shield under the front door is shorter and not quite as bad feeling. Working up towards the engine from there, I noticed the heat shield around the exhaust above the steering linkage feels more damped in it's response, but still has the same characteristic.

I can't experiment today, because my wife is working and I have to watch my kid, but I hope tomorrow to look at this further. Maybe more rigid shields, or more tie down points are needed to kill this.

Then again, maybe it's not the problem. But my fingers are crossed!!

Maybe add some weight to the heat shields. It's worth a try

I just crawled under the truck for 10 minutes and looked at the catalytic converters. The drivers side is within 1 inch of the steering shaft. Both catalytic converters on the outgoing side have one bolt with one bracket attached to the transmission and it is rigid mounted there is no give. 1 foot passed the catalytic converters are resonators and the resonators are hung with rubber isolation style mounts. There is absolutely no give in the piping to and from the catalytic converters .Whatever the engine transmission and converters are doing they do it as one. only when you get to the resonator will you have a little bit of isolation and ability to dissipate vibration. So is it the way the engine is running at these rpms or is it the actual air flow through the exhaust system causing the vibration?I thought for sure it was the exhaust but now I'm not so sure anymore that it's not engine related. That takes me to the post of the Toyota engineer discussing the direct injection fuel pump so rather than trying to fix this ourselves I'm hoping Toyota finally figures this out.

Sorry I'm on a roll... does anybody know what type of motor mounts and transmission mounts are used? Are they hard rubber or are they liquid-filled.

I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow. I was even thinking of trying to get my sons GoPro camera and mount it under there. Aiming it directly at the general area and drive around for a while...

It was a guy. He is responsible for I think he said 5 States. I'm in Ohio. I had called the 800 number Thursday afternoon and told them I was getting tired of them "starting a case" and when I call back they tell me it's been closed. I tell them what's the point of "starting a case" if upon completion of the phone call you close it. I told them I want it taken to the next level and that the information should be sent to the actual Tacoma engineers and appropriate people. Not just closed. They told me within 24 hours I would get a call back. 25 hours later "Dan " called me. He apologized for "my" problem. We talked about it extensively. He told me he was actually waiting on a 2016 OR Tacoma. I told him I would not wish this problem on anyone but hope his truck has the problem. Please call back and you will see your case is closed. Then tell them they can close it when it's fixed!

Well, at least he spoke with you. Monique apparently tells everyone she speaks with that she has never heard of the issue.....and then gives you some BS line about Toyota actually caring about what you have to say, then does little or nothing at all.....When I first spoke with her, I thought she actually wrote down what I said and cared about the issue.....I'm actually thinking it is all a giant Ponzi scheme set to explode on us poor saps who buy their products. My 30 day response, that I was promised, is overdue by over a week and I'm wondering if I'll ever hear back? Sad, as I once thought very highly of Toyota. My opinion of them has deteriorated rapidly.

I managed to make it feel worse for my truck with some weight. Is that progress? LOL. I can feel sometimes in the 1-1.2k range some days. Today was proudly there when I fired it up for a short test drive.

You added weight to the heat shield an the vibration got worse?
