2nd Gen OR Second Battery Mount

Hi TW! I have been developing a battery tray for a while now. I am out of the development and testing phase and ready to bring these into production.

I currently have 4 pre-production tray kits ready to go. The only difference with the final version is additional cut outs for zip ties.

As of now these are very easy to install on OR models with ATRAC 2005-2011 that do not have the emissions pump. 2012+ Models I am finishing up relocation brackets and will be offered with the kit soon.

Second Battery Tray

Included Hardware


Purpose:

• Adds a second battery to your Off-Road model Tacoma. The largest battery that fits in the passenger side location is a Group 27 (Same as stock). A group 31 is too large and why limit yourself to a small group 34.
• Neatly organizes all your auxiliary electric needs by having previsionary space for a relay control box, breaker and battery control module.
• Clean and aesthetically pleasing, this tray and kit follow the lines and appearances of an OEM setup.

Specs:

• Designed for the Optima Yellow or Blue Top group 27 battery.
• Provides mounting location for a Blue Sea ML-ACR (bracket with threaded holes and stainless torx bolts)
• Neatly arranges a mounting location for a Bussmann RTMR relay and fuse box.
• A cut out for a Bussmann surface mount breaker
• Custom cut 99.9% copper bridge to connect RTMR and breaker
  
• Delrin top battery tie down. Non conductive and will not cause a short if battery were to come loose.
• The tray is water jet cut from 1/8" steel and powder coated black
• Hardware (nut, bolts, mounting torque screws, and battery tie down rods) are all marine grade stainless.
• Clears aftermarket hood struts.

Compatibility:

• Fits 2005-2011 Off-Road ATRAC Models with no relocation and minimal fitting.
• Fits 2012-2015 Off-Road ATRAC Models with relocation of emission pump (kit coming soon)
• If your Tacoma has this unit, the tray will not work

Future Additions:

• Completely wired and setup RTMR and Blue Sea ML-ACR with my switch panel into the cab. I will make this available shortly once I can finalize the wire lengths and pricing.

I see you have a 2012. I am finishing up the brackets to relocate the emissions pump. I should have those made to test soon. I'm hoping to make them out of stainless to avoid having to power coat them.

 

Hmmm... mine is a Sport, does that make a difference?

... and I haven't installed all the stuff I have yet, 'cause I was waiting/searching for options on a dual battery set-up (and better weather).

This plate, a relocation bracket for the pump, more cable, and a ML-ACR could get pricey.

Oh! ... and powder coat may be unecessary, wrinkle paint works just as good.

So close man! All the Tacoma's expect for the OR's have a different type of brake system that takes up room in the passenger side wheel well. The OR's have a Hydrostatic brake system so they don't have the ABS module on the passenger side. This tray bolts into the studs that hold onto that ABS equipment.

In the next few weeks though I should have something you maybe interested as well. Stay tuned.

Essentially if you have this (not my photo) my dual tray will not fit.

 

That exact thing is what i have too :/

 

It's the only bummer with this kit and this location in general. The only other approach is to relocated the steering pump reservoir and install a smaller group 34 there, or relocated the second battery to the bed.

 

The bed is looking more and more like what i'll have to do. Just no room in the engine bay for the OR models it seems.

 

I think that's the way to go. Take a look at one of the last few pages in my build thread. I had a aluminum captains box built to hold my compressor in the bed. Something like that would be nice to hold 1 or 2 additional batteries and all the management equipment.

 

Looks great! Saw it in person this weekend and it is super clean. If my truck didn't have that brake stuff in the way I'd go this route.

Not all ORs are like that. Only the ORs that have atrac don't have the abs block. I have an 06 OR and have the abs block there
