    Lot of people put their air compressors under the sheet metal. Seen a few 80's trail rig trucks with a cut out for their hi-lift to fit into.

    @ROK-NJA,

    I dove into my collection of pictures and ideas that I have skimmed off the web and found these pictures of a Tundra that had been highly modified for Bass Pro Shops.toyota_sema-tundra-sportsman_det_ns_1103103_815.jpg toyota_sema-tundra-sportsman_rear_ns_110310_717.jpg

    2011-toyota-tundra-sportsman-rear-view.jpg 92643_4_468.jpg 92643_5_468.jpg sema_2010_toyota_takes_the_high_ground_with_the_tundra_sportsman_10.jpg

    Having never taken a Tundra bed apart I have no idea how easy hinging a Tacoma bedside would be, but the idea does lend itself to the possibility of some interesting solutions in both utility and storage. Hope these help kick start your creative process.

    I think that the concept opens up a whole new list of possibilities, I just think that this particular execution was based on the demands of a sales team and not anyone who intended to actually use the truck in the bush. I'd still like to see someone take their time and create a truly functional and useable space out of a hinged bedside.

    I've seen a couple of pictures on ExPo where guys have added compartments to full sized trucks, but not Tacomas. They used to be optional on some years of Full sized trucks as well. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard for a good fabricator. I've also seen where some folks added racks that held smaller Pelican cases or ammo cans for tools and recovery gear but they had to get under the truck to get them- which seems like too much of a PITA to get to in my opinion. Maybe if you were going to do the expedition thing and wanted to carry seldom used items like extra fluids and spare parts...

    I did some measuring a while back and was thinking about adding another battery under the passenger side; one of the smaller/slimmer Odyssey batteries would fit. Something like the PC1800-FT would be nice but they are really pricey.

    I always thought inside the bed side would be a good place for a hot dog tank for compressed air.

    I'm sure that drug cartels have mind blowing methods of utilizing the body panels to hide cargo.
