Hey gentlemen, I eventually plan on putting bigger/wider tires on my '16 Taco - 275/70/17s and just level the front and keeping rear stock. Therefore should I:

    A) Get Toytec's top plate spacer kit (which would provide 3/4" lift)

    or

    B) Wait for Bilstein to come out with their 5100 series for the '16. I've called them and the associate said they don't have a release date yet.

    or

    C) Other HAHA

My goal is mostly for aesthetics as well as to get some noticeable height difference while driving, but not compromise vehicle's components/longevity. Also, my plan is restricted to budget unfortunately LOL. Thanks for any advice and info!

** I know others have used 5100s (model for '15), but a couple of shops here in San Diego recommended to wait for Bilstein to come out with a model for '16.

So I don't have to lift the front for 275/70/17s, no rubbing?

No problem, will do. I'm expecting ~1" over stock.

Why not use the current set of 5100s? Perfectly compatible with the 3rd gen and plenty of people run the front raised up level while running stock height for the rear.

Yeah, I was ready to get some but then after talking to a couple of shops who would potentially install them, they recommended just waiting for the new one to come out. They were like, "even though, there hasn't been any reports of issues...why risk anything? Just go with what would be best for your truck."

Curious what would possibly be different about what's already being produced. The current version bolt right up and you're only looking to level the front so you'd only be going up one notch. Would there be a "between notch" notch that would make it more or less level? :notsure:

From what I've read on the forum the spring rate is different on the 16's. I would assume that means that the new 5100's will be valved differently for the 2016's but I don't know.

I did have the 5100's on my 2010 OR and really liked the ride.

quite a bit is different with the 2016's so i would wait till bilstein comes out with a recommended setup before using the ones approved for the 05-2015's. Toytec Lifts did a test on the spring rate of the 16's and it came out at over 700lbs which is different than the 2nd gen 05-15. A bunch of great reading in this post, and the first post presented by Toytec Lifts.

For a visual comparison, Here is a 07 Tacoma coil, a 16 Tacoma coil, and a OME 885

a lot of members are posting up in that thread about using OME coils and 5100 shocks but ill warn you that this setup is NOT approved by either company and they will not warranty replace any part because of the mix and match setup. I would either wait for bilstein or go with a tested approved kit for now, for not much more $$ just get the BOSS kit which is a night and day difference over the 5100's anyways! :D

cheers, hope that helps a little

you are correct, they are working on it but the valving is going to be different and I'm assuming they are going to have to develop a coil for 16's as well.

Toytec spacer worked fine for me. No need to spend too much money since I'll be lifting it 2.3-3" next year any way.

Thought the OP was just going to level using the stock springs, not mix things up with OME or other vendors.

I can't imagine it would it make that much of a difference to use a 5100 for 05-15 or wait until the 16+ are released but then its not my truck.

If I'm looking to lift it like 2", what is the Boss kit that works for the '16?

Bilstein 5100s all around, Toyo All Terrain AT II 285/70/17, Custom Car Grill, front windows tinted at 35%, door still protectors, bed Matt, tail gate lettering, center console organizer and detailed with Adam's Polishes products
I bought my 5100s from Jet.com and they were less then $300 for all 4. Install was $300 from a local shop. The 5100s leveled the front out nicely and the ride is awesome. I went with 265/70/17 and kind of kick my self because I could have went with 275/70/17 but I still love the look and the feel of the ride. I don't know where they are getting their 2016 information from.
