Its all in the driver. But we plan on as Fernando says. Hammering down!!! If your down and you can hang ,do it. If you and a few others just want to putt around maybe two groups.we just don't want it to be the last few trips where we spend all day pulling people out. To big of a group can really put a damper on things.I don't mind helping people out,, but it can be time consuming. As for 33" mine are really only 32.4" . I may just go fishing instead. All this talk has reminded me how many Recovery's we had last time.lol

Why are chains so frowned upon? I haven't used Chains since I got 4wd. I never really heard of chains until I moved to CA and needed them on my old civic.

My ATs did great on the last trip to UTC until I ended up in a soft bank trying to pull someone else out. And I got STUCK good :) Lesson learned there. This time looking forward to hammerin down! Chains might not help much in the deep stuff out there.

If your 4 WD and you need chains for traction, your tires are probably bald. Chains on bald tires = flat tires. It puts stress on tires. And if your breaking loose even more stress on bald tires with chains. Chains are for hwy driving mostly two wheel drive. And never exceeding 25 mpg. Not off roading. In a pinch sure, but as a plan from the start. Not the best idea.

Oh yeah no doubt. I didn't say anything about using chains from the start. I agree that wouldn't be the best. I was just saying I would bring them. My tires are coming pretty close to the end of their life but not bald for sure.

Either way it looks like I'll be diving in Monterey this weekend and won't be going go to the snow.

At MET on the run in December, I was cruising at 40 - 45 before running into the group. My limited snow- wheeling experience has been slow on tighter trails. Totally different experience on wide open MET. So much fun.

We've been having nothing but rain dumping up there since last night. No snow.
