Do it yourself: scepter gas can spout

I needed a scepter gas can spout but didn't want to pay the Amazon premium of $20
Figured I could make my own.

I noticed the threads inside the can spout opening:



Went to the hardware store and picked up a 2 inch male adapter, 2 x 1/2 threaded bushing, a barb fitting and some fuel hose..






Glued the fittings together, threaded the barb fitting using yellow teflon rated for fuel:



Voila:

**dont forget to use yellow teflon at the 2" male threads**

 

only thing I encountered was a small drip during fueling .. and that is because i didnt teflon the threads on the 2" male adapter.

 

Looks perfect! That's how I did mine, plus teflon. Used a seal off a used oil filter around the base as well

 

what the hell?

so to avoid spending $20 on a part that works perfectly, you spend $18 for parts, and spent an hour working on it, so you could have a dripping product?

 

Step one: unscrew spout.
Step two: add teflon
Step three: screw spout.

Anything else?

 

I already had all the pieces except the female reducer.

 

sweet! yeah. I didnt think about adding the teflon until i saw the leak.. lol

I do plumbing on the side, so I had a few fittings laying around.

Only thing I had to go pick up was fuel hose.

 

Yeah, NPT fittings have to have it. Come to think of it I may have used gasoline frindly cement on the fitting. I remember welding the PVC that way.

Does it flow well without any vent system (none that I can see anyway)?

Wait...is that little hole the vent? Looks partially blocked by the PVC male fitting.

yes, there is a little hole vent on there, it flows well.

I like what they did there with the oil filter gasket.

 

Nice...thanks. Any thoughts on what would work for a cap on the end of the fuel hose?

 

I use a PVC end cap. Works well, I don't transport using it. Only around camp when I'll be accessing the gas multiple times.
