Your Warranty from Toyota? Yes and no. It will not void the entire warranty just by lifting it. But if something happens and they can pinpoint the failure is caused by the lift you installed, that will void it. They can't, for example, deny you warranty work because your headlight fell out just because you lifted it.

 

That's helpful. I called a nearby Toyota dealership and they do leveling kits adjustable up to like 2 1/2" (I think, the dude talked real fast). I asked if this would be covered by the warranty and he said if they did the work that that dealership would honor the warranty but that he could see other dealerships not replacing parts that might fail related to the lift parts because it wasn't their work.

With that said. Does a leveling kit make a noticeable difference in height and will I be able to fit larger tires on it without issue? Or should I just suck up and drop $1500 on lift and say F*** the suspension warranty?

 

People are using the 2nd Gen 5100s set at .85 (stock springs) to get level with nothing done to the rear. 2016 5100s still in development but may not be THAT different? Who knows.
Part number for the current 5100s that people are using on the 2016 is 24-239370.

 

So Toyota dealership saying suspension is same as 15's is wrong? Lol imagine that! Well I guess since they put my 5100's on they are going to honor the warranty!

 

I asked mine about lifts and they said they would only do level kits and that I was on my own with the lift.

 

Mine is already done by dealership and service manager told me suspension was same as 2015. I'm not worried about as the said since they put it on that its covered. Guess we will see how long these 5100's hold out!

I don't care about money was only $350.00 with alignment to install my bought lift and UCA's. All I care about is being covered.

No one better I have sheet of worked performed by dealership where I bought the truck! Anyway struts wear out and when they do I will put ones on it for year. Not worried about it! Looks good and rides better than stock.

 

I installed 5100s in the front at setting 1.75 with stock springs (717lbs rating according to this forum) on my 2016 TRD OR. I left the back stock. It definitely lifted the front and leveled the truck out. I drove the truck over 200 miles and went off roading in Anza Borrego desert this past weekend. It felt slightly stiffer than stock, I enjoyed the added ground clearance. Besides that, the shocks performed well and the front wasn't any bouncier than the stock shocks. I took pictures of the shocks side by side. As you can see the 2016 springs took 4 spring compressors to get down while the previous 2015 Tacoma springs were much easier to compress. Apologies for angled picture post-lift, I am unable to take another one at the moment. Bilstein puts a lifetime warranty on their shocks. Also, when they DO come out for specific shocks for the 2016+ Tacomas, I will probably switch to them.

 

The Magnuson Moss-Warranty Act
The Magnuson-Moss warranty act is a federal law enacted in 1975 that makes it illegal for auto manufacturers (or any manufacturer of consumer products, for that matter) to void a warranty simply because the owner of the vehicle adds an after-market product to a vehicle. The law states that manufacturers have to repair a vehicle problem UNLESS they can prove the problem was caused by an after-market part.

 

If you know any of the good Toyota techs on this forum they will tell you straight up that service writers rarely know anything factual about the cars and trucks they write up. Their job is to up sell additional work where ever they can.

But it sounds like you are happy and you got what you wanted and know that parts wear out. I just hope that Billie doesn't fail on you at the wrong time. With the amount of pressure that spring is putting on a 5100 designed for a 590lb spring(2nd gen) we are bound to start seeing some failures soon. For that I just need this.

 

Yeah but only if the shock is listed for that model number. If they fail on you Bilstein will not warranty anything because they were installed on a 2016 with the OEM springs that they are not designed for. Just be prepared.

 

Are the brake lines the same from second gen? Extended brake lines will work or are they different?

 

Most likely 5100 will out last his warranty unless he beats on them really hard. 2nd gen coils are 540lb, OMEs are 590lb. Stiffer sring will not hurt shock on compression but it might wear out faster because it's not designer to handle rebound from 720lb coil, more of a comfort issue. If it's fails it's not like he's going to get stuck somewhere.

 

Possibly... but the bigger issue are those using the adjustable bottom clip and adding in lift on those OEM springs. You are compressing that stiffer spring even more. I see that clip failing and the bottom cup falling down.

 

Hey yal this is my first post here on this forum! This is also my first yota! I just bought a 2016 Tacoma black double cab 2wd sr5 "XP Rockstar package" all stock except window tint lol

I'm loving this truck but I'm used to big trucks and big tires. With the 3" pro comp lift and 285/70r17s, how is your ride comfort and do you have much power/mpg loss?

 

The bottom cup if fine, it holds same truck weight as 2nd gen. I read somewhere or seen on YouTube that it will hold up to 5000lb. I would worry about top nut when preloading new 720lb coil, applying that much preload. Imagine someone preload them at 2.5" and then cross tread top nut without knowing, that think can kill someone if they try removing whole strut assembly.
