    This is the kind of drivin it would take to bottom out suspension and possibly have problem with 5100 and preloaded stock 16 coils. In reality not many people will ride their brand new trucks this way, so it's going to take some time before you see any fails.

    much more than whats shown in that video can ruin a 5100 shock or any shock for that matter. My 5100's leaked after 2 years and i don't do anything close to what that guy does in that video!!!

    this was mine after only mild wheeling, i was doing the U bolt flip and noticed this mess!! it was time to upgrade to Toytec BOSS

    Man I'm having so much fun with them and ride is so much better that I'm worried about all extra miles I will be putting on! So I will have more fuel stops and will have more trails to explore! Real world issues!

    Nothing last forever!!! so many things could cause blown shock seal even with toytec boss kit. Doesn't Bilstaine offer lifetime warranty for their shocks?

    Your right there! I had a 2013 Raptor and just from normal driving at 4500 miles had issues with my fox racing shocks on one side. Just never know!

    I don't expect shocks to last forever, just as i don't expect them to last through what the dude did in that video!! Im just waiting to hear people start having problems running 5100's on 2016s.


    if you are using a 717lb per square inch coil on a bilstein 5100 not designed for that coil, but designed for a 600lb coil, how can you say there isn't going to be issues? The ride quality is going to be SHIT in my opinion, thats even if you have them on the lowest clip, set at 0. for the 2nd gen with 600lb coils its recommended to have them set on the 2nd clip or .85

    I will say this, if you are running bilstein 5100 shocks on the OEM coils you probably won't get a warranty replacement shock, if you are running bilstein 5100's on OME / ARB coils you WILL NOT not get a warranty shock replacement.

    Did you open that link I posted earlier? People were having problems in 2012 that's way before anyone ever ran them in 16 year model


    Edit. The general discussion was about bottom cup not being able to hold up to the new 717lb coils. So the topics has kind of shifted

    yeah i opened it and browsed it a little. what your not understanding is the suspension is different on the 16's from the factory, see first page with all the information posted by OP. The problems with the 5100's are going to start coming into this thread complaining about either leakage, blown, or shitty ride quality on the 2016's. Im just waiting for that to start happening because no one wants to take any of the warnings that have been posted numerous times by a bunch of users that have been around this forum for a LONG time

    you can also see that Toytec made it right and responded in that thread, as well as the OP got a warranty claim replaced and is all set but won't buy 5100's ever again.

    What Gramps was saying was that the 5100's you have are designed for a spring rate in the 600lb range, which is the factory rate for the 2nd gens, not for the factory springs you have on your 2016 that are around the 717lb range. That is why Bilstein hasn't released 5100's for the 2016 trucks. The OME coils he suggested are closer to the spring rate of the 2nd gen trucks.

    An OEM spring from a 2015 Tacoma does not equal an OEM spring from a 2016 Tacoma. May or may not be a problem or cause issues, but the fact is the 2015 5100's are not made or valved for the 717lb springs you currently have.

    Well the 5100's I got came with coils already. Not worried I will run them till new ones come out. My Toyota service advisor called Toyota and said suspension was same as 2015's. Either way I'll put new ones on when they come out and if one leaks or fails I'll take it back and had factory ones put back on.
