Considering what I just spent on my low miles first gen (compared to what KBB valued it at), if somebody hits me and totals it they better hope I don't make it out of there, cause I'll be oh-so-pissed. But I do drive like an uber-alert grandma now so, that's good.

From what I understand, Tacos have always done well in crash test ratings (relative to when they were new and tested). I remember seeing a thread on here recently from someone who totaled there relatively new 2nd gen and walked away from it, can't remember the OP's handle though.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
I got rear ended by a small Corolla. My foot was on the brake at a full stop at a red light and she hit me hard enough to send me about 3-4' rolling. With my lift she lightly dented the bumper and damaged the plastic, 99% of the impact was straight into the trailer hitch.

I'm still seeing a physical therapist (just the right angle for gnarly whiplash), passenger came out fine.

    Oh, accident was late December.

After owning my White 2012 DCSB T|X Pro for about 6 months with < 7,000 miles I decided to drive it on a late Sunday morning trip to work. I normally drove a 2010 Honda Civic EX to keep miles off the Taco (120 mile round trip).

Out of the blue while driving north on interstate 55 near Hernando, Mississippi a pine tree fell and struck my truck at the base of the windsheild. It took out the hood, windshield, right front fender, right foreward & aft door, right rear fender, mirror, antenna & top of the cab including the interior overhead compartment & headliner.

The truck drove fine & I had already left all but some pine cones behind me so I drove on to work in Memphis. I was covered with shards of glass but zero injury.

I turned it in the next day for repair. Once I got it back it seemed perfect. I sold the civic and just used the Taco as my DD.

I totaled my 2007 TRD Sport twice and still drove her home. They are great vehicles. I now own a 2014 Tacoma Baja TX 4x4. I love it.

Considering some of the mods I see people do to their trucks on here, I'd say plenty of people have wrecked their truck and don't even know it yet.

I drove up on a bank at about 45 mph in my ' 09. When I made it back to the road the truck was on its drivers side lol. Side curtains deployed and after trying to open the drivers side door (lol dumbass) I crawled up and out the passenger side and hopped down. Thankfully I didn't hit any of the countless rocks and trees on that stretch of road.....I didn't have my seatbelt on ( dumbass, no lol). Spilled my coffee.

Totaled cuz airbags n body damage I believe she'd have driven away fine

"We got picked up for suspicion of mischief."
"Oh yeah, what were you doing?"

Rolling on I-90 in MT. Semi overturns in the snow in front of me, I start slowing down and moving onto the shoulder (another semi in the lane next to me does the same but is moving from the left lane into the right lane), we both are going very slow ~5 MPH or slower. I'm in neutral, clutch is full depressed, not on the brake.

A semi tees up on my rear end going God only knows how fast. Rear windows on the cab (ones that face the bed) blow out with the impact. I'm looking down at the speedo after the contact; shows me going 55!!!

Rear end lost more than 2' of bed with the crumple. Frame in the rear was bent down at ~45* angle. I think the canopy helped absorb a lot of the hit.

Could have driven her back to Oregon no sweat. Everything worked still, drove straight, except I had no rear end or lights!!!

    Fucking tank!!!

Not personally but Ive seen quite a few tacomas on the highway that have rolled over and landed on the cabin. They seemed to have held up very well.

I lost my 2008 while moving. The day after I got thrown out of my house and lost my wife.

Long story short, coming across northern Louisiana around 3AM. Everything I have left in the world is in the bed under a fiberglass topper. A semi wheel (tire, rim, brake caliper assembly, the works) is in the road just past a blurp in elevation hiding most of it in shadow. I hit it around 60ish.

Blew the radiator off the front of the engine compartment and slammed it backwards, shoved the cooling fan into the front of the block and tore half the engine mounts clean in half. Ripped up the tranny from the torque as well.

Oh, and it was an August thunderstorm. The impact shattered the topper into about 1000 pieces and all my shit get thrown out onto the road and soaked.

It wasn't one of my better days.

    dude....

Sounds like an indescribably awful day, hopefully with 8 years having passed there's been a silver lining to it all...one of those "that which doesn't kill you..." situations. But goddamn, sorry to hear about that man

Oh, no, the TRUCK was a 2008. This was August of 2014. I got to OKC with a rental car, $300 in my pocket, and a box of computer parts.

    *shrug*

I got over it. Bought another Taco (the '06 in my profile) and I'm shopping for houses out here now. Its amazing what you can overcome with sheer willpower & an asshole attitude.

But thanks for the kind words anyhow!

This past November, I hit some ice, turned the truck sideways, hit a ditch, the truck flipped over somehow. I had 3 other people in the cab with me, we all walked away without a scratch.

I miss that truck :( But I bought a new one. This is the first time in my 50 years that I've bought the same vehicle again.
