Next time he's here for more than a day, I'm going to paint his truck to match this:

Nice job on that bumper. I didn't think it would of worked without a bender......

I sometimes use an old phone to run Torque to keep my phone free.

I'd like to see a parts list and wiring diagram when you're done. Looks like a great idea. You could probably sell them for a small profit to ppl on here.

I'll definitely keep you guys updated, ask me again for the info when I'm closer to being done cause it's possible I'll forget. How quickly I finish this depends on how much free time I can scrape together. As for selling them, I would have to bring it up to what I would consider professional quality, which is difficult since I tend to personally look at the flaws of my own creations more than the features.

Please... I prefer the term "sweater puppies."

:annoyed: Hell, after the cornholing was over I called the dealer and they estimated around $750ish. That would have been a good deal.

Gary, I do a lot of prototyping with Arduino prior to limited production projects. If you want any help producing a SMT PCB and trying a small production run, let me know. I'm crazy busy right now with several other projects, but that looks like fun.

    ashtray.jpg

Question: has anyone had/heard of an issue where the ashtray is stuck about an inch open?

I know that sounds weird, but my taco came like that. Up until now it was okay, because it turned out to be a perfect spot for the cellphone, angled in there, close to the charger. However, the crutchfield instructions for console removal mention a screw behind the ashtray.

I swear the ashtray is jammed so hard you would think it had been welded there. I tried again with increasing force and got nowhere. I need to stick my head down there and see if I can discover the issue/misalignment/whatever. I guess it's time to try selective sideways strikes with a hammer or something...

Use square tube for a skelton and thin gauge "skin" over it if you want a plate look without plate weight
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/custom-tube-bumper-build-1999-tacoma.343555/

Also if you want to use tube and want to do angles, use this

Built my bumper using the HF pipe bender. I don't recommend it if you are going to be using tube like I did. I did try bending pipe with it just to see if it worked fine for that and it did.

i was thinking this while i was out today at work driving and was going to ask if it would still be ok as a bumper as i came up with a idea of doing a c section of like say 3/16 the whole width then do a cosmetic shell of like 1/8 thick on the outside... ill have to do some more research for sure but
this is perfect!! except not with a winch and the skidplate all the way up to the fairlead instead.......oh boy i see some pvc being bought to build a mock up very soon in my future:)

i use to have the HF tube bender but after buying pipe and trying to use it for making a bumper and it crushing the pipe it went into the shed and then sold at a garage sale as i thought it sucked just never got around to getting a real tube bender at all..

I only made 1 bend with pipe just to try it. Maybe I got lucky :notsure:
