And just like that, 12 hours after filing the complaint with corporate, the GM of the dealership calls, profusely apologizes and I'm heading in to pick up my truck in a few!

Really messed up. My dealer took my old truck and a $17,000 personal check and I drove it home. Crazy to make you wait for a cashiers check to clear. They have your name, address, insurance info, etc. Maybe they got stiffed in the past and are trying to CYA. Still no reason not to let you have your truck.

Yeah, the GM said they've been bitten before. This is the land of the Masshole, afterall. The fact that I arranged financing independently means they have no real insight into my credit, financial stability or trustworthiness, so I get their apprehension. But the fact that I'm in for $8k already, they have a copy of my DL & Green Card, know where I live - should be enough. Heck, I showed them my bank balance with enough cash on hand to buy the truck outright and even offered for them to put a $28k preauth on my Amex if it would give them peace of mind.

Just glad I can start putting this pile of parts taking up half my apartment onto the truck. Though I'm going to miss the new tire smell.

This was all over a cashier's check right? Didn't read every new post. If so it is stupid simple for anyone, dealership or individual, to call the bank and verify the funds were actually issued for the check. They can also get routing #/check #/account # all at the same time. If it was a cashier's check, then that is just pure laziness on their part. I would be throwing a fit as well.

He stated it was a check from the financing bank with the vehicle description printed on the back of the check, in my experience this is more of a bank draft than a cashiers check, so not as cut and dry. Every dealership has a checks and balance system between the Business Office and the Sales Department. Sales Department just wants to sell cars and will make more liberal decisions. Unfortunately the Business Office always tries to error on the side of caution and can take that too far at times as they aren't the ones having to deal directly with the customers. Its easy to say "No" when your not the one that has to tell the customers to their face.

So, playing Devils Advocate it is a constant struggle between the Sales Dept and their Business Office for every dealership. It may not be a perfect system but without the checks and balance of that system the Sales Dept would say yes to everything and the dealership would go bankrupt. lol. I am sorry to hear you had to be the subject of that struggle and I'm glad it got resolved. Congrats Bro!

No pics since the things I have done so far look like most other Inferno's in this thread but I have added matte black rear tailgate letters, orange Tacoma decals for the glove box and this morning I popped into the tint shop to have them tint the two front windows 25% to match the rears. Originally asked for 35% but the guy there somehow talked me into the 25%. It looks great and living in SC I do not forsee too many issues with LEO harassing me for it. I just hope it doesn't appear too dark at night otherwise I will be paying to have it removed and going to 35%. First week of ownership so baby steps so far until I am ready to do the lift, wheels and tires.

Dropped omy Offroad to the Dealership today with 4k Miles, they need to keep it until its all repaired.

    • They need to weld the brace to the hood and get it repainted since it was fluttering/ flexing. Rep states Toyota is aware of this.
    • Transmission fluid was low...that is common knowledge on this forum.
    • Sensor in the rear went bad for my BSM

Now I am stuck in rental Dodge Dart for two weeks!

That wouldn't have flown with me, they would have let me drive my trade , my new one or a loaner or the cops would have been called to save them.
