I want to mount my radar detector in the rearview mirror area. I may use the GoPro mount or come up with something else to mount the detector, but that is not a big deal. I just want it hard wired in.
I would like to hear from you guys who have accessed 12volts in that area for a radar detector.
I see a wire feeding the rear mirror but I hate to splice into that. I also see the overhead lights panel, so there is 12V feeding those.
In my other older cars, I would run a wire under the windshield trim and pillar trim down to the fuse box. I'm leery of messing around the pillar airbag area. So I think finding 12V in the mirror/ovh light panel area is the answer.
So who has done this. Is the power feeding the overhead panel lights easily accessable? Maybe remove the sunglass drop down holder and find the wires there? Is the whole panel that houses the sunglass holder/ovh lights easily removed? Post any pics if you have a clean install. Thanks.

I ran a wire up from the trailer brake plug near your left foot area.
Pretty easy to tuck it in the head liner. I removed the pillar cover. One bolt behind a pop out door in the middle of the pillar.

Nice, I just dont like putting suction cups on my windshield because it damages my tint. Ive seen people post in the forum that they adapt the gopro mount for the detector. But I like where mine is because I can get to the frigging mute button when needed.

Checkout "Blendmount" and "MirrorTap". I've used both these products in the past.

I used the exact same stuff for my 2012 Subaru STi. Works like a champ. Only thing is on my Subaru it has auto-dim cancellation when you shift to reverse so when I shift to reverse the radar detector turns off. No biggie really, ive only broken the speed limit in reverse twice..........

Confirming the wires used in the above post are correct. I did the same thing with a mirror tap. Very easy job once you know which wires to use. My detector is mounted on top of the rear view mirror with velcro tape. I had my '05 Tundra this way and like that it is more out of sight.
