    One of the joys of getting a new vehicle is having to buy some new tools to work on it. Since my previous new vehicle was a 2002 my OBD-II scanner will not work with my Tacoma (and I want a newer one that will allow me to T/S ABS systems as well) what are the members on here looking at or buying in terms of scan tools?

    thought no one had it I have the bt lx version, scantool....and it basically reports the same temperature of coolant and trans temp. Been looking for the codes....wonder if someone can figure out what code they are using and post it.

    Your link refers to 2nd gen, the codes have changed.

    Torque app (paid version; like $6 I think?) plus a cheap bluetooth OBD-II transmitter (~$25 or less) covers everything you could ever need/want.

    The PID for ATF temp was discovered for the 2nd gen Taco, 4Runner, FJ, etc, so it's only a matter of time before someone discovers the 3rd gen PID.

    Well, I can tell you that UltraGauge IS NOT for the 3rd gen. I bought the UG. I sent the following email to UG:

    Message:

    Good afternoon. My Ultra Gauge arrived today. I plugged it in and set up the screen to show TRN in Celsius and Fahrenheit. The screen shows "err" for both. My vehicle is not listed on your exceptions page and your definition of the err is that it is normal to be temporarily displayed. The err is not temporary. It remains on. I specifically bought this product to read my transmission fluid temp so I don't have to jumper the OBDII connection port. Please provide the solution so I can utilize the transmission fluid temp or instructions to return the product. Thank you.

    The pre-programming is for 2005-2012. The codes for the 2015/2016 were changed by Toyota.
    Look for the codes on the Tacomaworld forum.

    I used Torque Pro today on a 2016 Tacoma . In the program I chose add a check -scrolled to transmission temp .I chose transmission temp . check 1 . and transmission temp check 2 and added them one at a time . Transmission check 1 gave me readings for the temp while driving of 188 to 192 degrees F. The trans temp check 2 gave no data . Is trans temp check 1 the check and data I can use to bring the trans up to 95 to 113 for checking the trans fluid level ?

    Seems someone has figured out how to read ATF temperature with the Scan Gauge.
    Somewhat implying the PID(s) are available.
    Can some one post those PIDs for use with other readers/apps?
    I use Torque on an Android device paired with BAFX

    I don't know that I would trust a transmission check without techstream or the jumper method anyway. The jumper gets it into temperature detection mode and then removing the jumper causes it to enter idle speed control mode, while in temp detection mode.

    Here is an excerpt from the instructions:

    HINT:
    Disconnecting terminals TC and TE1 activates engine idle speed control mode.

    Without entering idle speed control mode the RPMs could vary with engine load (A/C, lights, etc.), and that would cause an inaccurate transmission level. That check is designed to be done at one certain RPM, and in a very specific temperature range.
