I recently bought a 2001 4x4 Access Cab Tacoma and I'm busy researching suspension, wheels and tires. I know a lot about gen 2s since I've been at them for years, but the gen 1s are still pretty new to me.

I've been torn between what lift, the height, the wheels, offset/BP and between 265/75/R16 or 285/75/R16.

Well, today I was on the road and I saw this one black Access cab that has the look I'm going for. I think it has a 3" inch lift, but I can't figure out the size tires and the wheel width/offset. My guess is the wheels are 16x8 or 7.5 and closer to 0 offset due to the dish.

Maybe some of you guys with more experience in gen 1s can point out what it all is. Lift height? Tire size? Possible wheel width and offset/bp?

Check out the photo and video and post below.

Creper status!!! j/k, looks like my setup with maybe a little bigger tires. 3 inch lift, stock-ish tires.

hard to say but i'm gonna guess 285/75/16 with OME dakar rear leafs and 881 coils in the front. Second guess is 265/75/16 with bilstein 5100 middle setting in the front and 1.5 AAL in the back.

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like I don't have to spring to 285s for the look I'm going for. I just have to get the lift right and the wheel offset. I was looking at the FN Five Star 16x8 3.5" backspace, but that's likely probably wider than the truck in the pictures. Maybe I'll split the difference and do 4" backspacing like the SCS SR8.

Thanks for the link to the OME thread. I've been thinking of 5100 / OME Combo, but the group buys for full OME kits look enticing.

I haven't no. Not so sure I like the narrow look. But I can see that being an easy way of getting weight with less drag and no rubbing at full lock.

    3in lift, front fox coilovers.
that looks more like a 2-2.5 leveling kit to me. i own a 1st gen with a 3in suspension lift and mine looks a bit higher in the front. but your guess is as good as mine, plus i know there are alot more people with alot more knowledge on this than me. just my 2 cents

I don't get why so many people are opposed to a 255. The difference in width between a 265 and 255 is less than half an inch.

Well, I think it's because once you go 255 you can take advantage of going taller without rubbing, and end up at 85 sidewall (on 16s). That really changes the proportions or aspect ratio of the tire and even though it's not much narrower, this makes it look a lot narrower than it is.
