What size radiator do I need?

1998 Tacoma 3.4

I called the place and they said there are two options for me: 20" or 22"

Google isn't helping me. So I am asking TW.

Not yet, I will try to get one this weekend. It's the 2.7 4-cyl. so it's not too throaty.
Beats the old muffler that had a hole in it...a ghetto Thrush.

Oh well, crap. The manufacturer said it reduces air drag. I am getting better mpg's but that may because of my new tires.

manual is the shorter one, auto is the taller one. Both will fit.

 

Is this a case of "bigger is better" or does it not matter?

It's only 2"

I installed the shorter one in mine when i replaced it. No problems.
Go and measure to be sure.

 

More questions:

1. Is yours aluminum?
2. How do I measure it? On the diagonal?

 

Aluminum core with plastic tanks, top and bottom. Just like stock.
You are measuring for height. I'll go measure mine for reference.

The radiator place said that this does not come with plastic tanks. I assume those are the overflow, etc.

Should I buy those too? Or just get the core.

 

I measured from top of tank to bottom of tank, overall height is 22", so I don't have any idea what I'm talking about.
I was asked when I picked it up if i was auto or manual, they said I needed the shorter one. The new one was an exact size fit compared to the stock one.

 

The plastic tanks are the top and bottom assembly of the radiator. They are called tanks.
Your new one may be all aluminum and that's cool too. I'd like to see pics if that's the case.

So I should get the tanks as well? Looking at my radiator it appears as though the crack/leak is coming from the upper part of the assembly.

 

lol, no, my bad for the confusion. The tank is the upper and lower assembly that the aluminum portion is crimped too. It's all one piece. Just buy new hoses if anything.
