What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Finally got around to swapping in a cluster with a tach from a 2000 prerunner. Happy surprise... the 4x4 light works! I would post pics.....but you all know what a stock cluster looks like. I forgot to take a before picture anyway.

are you guys able to unlock the drivers side door from the inside by pulling the handle?

Why would you go with HID retrofit kit when the LED bulbs are drop in and just as bright?

 

Probably means your lock internals are wearing out.

Not much to tear into. It's one part, you probably just think of it as the latch that holds the door in place, but it has the locking mechanism in it as well, it just has a bunch of rods that tie out to the door handles and the lock tab. It's all riveted and tack-welded together, you can't really fix it you just have to replace it. I had to replace mine on the left-rear door when I bought my truck back in December. Pain in the keister, you pretty much have to remove everything else in the entire door to get to it.

 

Mine unlocks when the truck is shut off. Automatically....

 

I thought it should do that too, but it doesn't. Lock/unlock button works, but no shut off magic.

 

I'm skeptical that dropping in LEDs would be just as bright as an HID retrofit, and the beam pattern certainly wouldn't be as good. Plus a retrofit looks bitchin'.

 

ha. Remember when you had to hold the handle up and shut the door.....

Mine didn't do this either when I bought it, but I found these programming instructions for different lock/unlock options.

 

I have an '01 with power everything, just not keyless entry. Or at least I didn't get a fob when I bought it. Maybe I do have keyless entry. It looked like it was an option to be added.

 

The high end led kits nowadays are getting just as bright as hids but then they have the same limitations for putting them in factory headlights. Their just too bright and cause extra light to stray outside the beam which can blind other drivers and fail an inspection. Once you go to a good projector setup you wont wana go back. Super bright and wide beam with a virtually perfect cutoff.
