Rev hang in these trucks is a bitch. I wish there was a wire mod that fixed it so it doesn't sound like you don't know wtf you're doing between gears when stomping that gas pedal.

Not that it needs to be said again, but just to make sure everyone heard... Fuck the EPA.

Yeah I know it's not actual flywheel power but it does give you 282 perceived torque because it puts down 4 more torque than hp on the dyno.

So I have been bummed about no manuals locally to test drive.

Last night coming out of the mall, there was a QS 4x4 OR in the lot. I went up to it and was looking at it. Owner came around (mid 40s gentleman). So I complimented the truck and said rare for 6MT. He said he ordered it from OR. Asked if I wanted to check it out.

So I got in the driver seat (I know, getting in a strange man's car...) cue the jokes. And put the clutch in and just shifted through the gears. Started it up, and it actually felt great.

I didn't drive it around the lot and didn't ask. But what a good experience.

Probably was nice to me, due to me being a woman in a business suit, admiring his truck :D

I would guess more than 80% of us pulled the trigger on a manual without being able to test drive, and fewer than 0% of us have regretted the decision.

Well, I'll let you guys know, but supposedly UCON from URD cures the rev hang a bit, I haven't got solid word on that yet, but fingers crossed.

As for NA vs NA, I think it would be a close one, I think the 3rd gen is gonna have more top end because it builds more power in the upper RPMS whereas the 2nd gen is gonna get going sooner with the increased torque.

As for Supercharger, I know everyone and their brother is saying no more TRD, but I would not be surprised in the least if TRD opens the program back up within the next few years as selling gimmick. Shut it down now, make everyone realize what they are missing out on, then re-open for some good sales.

Not to worry though, I'm sure URD will have SC'd for the 16+ in ..ohhh I don't know...2025 or so.

It's an ECU Piggyback with amazing tuning for our engines. URD has it for the 05-08's but in '09 Toyota changed the ECU plugs from 5 to 6 and added some shit and URD has been agonizingly slow about upgrading to accommodate the extra plug. Supposedly they have the '09-'11 done now, but I still don't see it on their website, and since they added the air injection shit in to the 2012+ headers, they have to adjust for that as well. I keep harassing them on FB but they keep saying they need a guinea pig 2015. I volunteered half a dozen times but they're on the east coast :(

You all keep talking about more torque from the 4.0L vs the 3.5L. My research says that there is only a 1ft-lb difference between the two and I am rather confused on how you guys are able to feel the difference.
I have driven both generations of tacoma and can't tell a difference torque wise.

Manual has been tested to be .8 seconds faster to 60 and .4s faster in the 1/4 mile by car and driver. Same track, same conditions.

Look at that and assume they hit 60mph, is the 3rd gen auto .8 seconds behind the 2nd gen or less? My friends all have 4.0s, it's not that close

There is a difference between looking faster and actually being faster unless I am mistaken :boink:

What I really want to know is how does one feel a change of -0.37735849% (look it up, thats the percent change between 266ft-lb and 265ft-lb)
On the other hand, there is a +17.79661016% increase in horsepower. From my time messing with stupid little tuner cars, your not really gonna feel anything less than a 15% change.

One other thing, it was a bit unfair of TFL Truck to pit the 3rd gen auto against two manuals. We all know manuals can be launched way harder!

Well, I mean there's a video of the 2nd gen pulling on the 3rd...don't know what else to provide lol. Granted its not an 1/8th or 1/4 but there's the video for ya.
