    Reverse Light Upgrade

I had a lot of interest surrounding this write-up in my build thread, and through Bold Overland, so figured I'd toss it up here for everyone to see.

The reverse lights on a 2006 Toyota Tacoma are, for lack of a better term, shlt. I decided enough was enough and upgrading was necessary. The fact I'm about to embark on a 6000+ mile journey also played into the decision.

The stock bulb is a 921 type. In my research I found that many many aftermarket solutions are available. The Tacoma has an endless cavern in the rear taillight housing so I went big. 1000 lumens big.
I purchased them through Amazon here: FlashWolves 1000 Lumen LED (1 pack of 2 LED lights)

I wish I could put into words how bright these things are. The iPhone6s camera doesn't do it justice. I'd say there's maybe 3 or 4 times the amount of light with the new LED units.

Shoving the 6-speed shifter into reverse initiates the birth of a new sun behind my camper shell now.

LOL! I'm not even in the market for these, but that endorsement made me laugh AND want to buy the bulbs.

How have these been treating you so far? I take it they're plug in and play?

I have similar bulbs from "JDM" on Amazon and you are correct Sir, they are bright as hell.

I just put a set of these on my truck. No problems, seem nice and bright.
Haven't tried them in the dark yet.

Very interesting... I put CREE lights under my Tacoma bumper already but I'm not opposed to adding these too. I wonder if these will work in my '06 and '07 Camry? Did you notice any improvement in visibility of your backup cam?

I had a Pontiac Bonneville with tinted windows and my wife could never see well to back up, I ended up with a higher wattage bulb to help, but this looks like a much better solution.

Wow, 45 LEDs, I wonder what the current draw, actual wattage, and equivalent wattage is?

    Nice! Congrats

I don't have a backup cam so hard to say, but I imagine it would improve dramatically. Draw doesn't appear to be significantly different but, again, hard to say. I haven't done any real scientific testing on them.

They are white (full spectrum), no real overly blue, green or red, to be seen. They really make details and depth pop. A vast upgrade over the stock halogens.

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
Shoving a bunch of spicy bear stew into my mouth this weekend just initiated the birth of a new planet to orbit your new sun.

That said, this is one bad-azz upgrade. Ordering bulbs now. Which # welding shade should I get with them? ;-)

The reverse switch is pretty slow. You should be safe with a 12 or 13. Anything behind your truck will Terminator.

Sure will. They were originally installed into 2006 non-LED taillights but now live in 2009 LED taillights. No difference for the reverse bulb portion.

Also, can confirm they will live under fresh water for 6+ hours and still work.
