How to run wires next to windshield?

Ya, but this way when he sells the truck, he can keep the bar and not have a 3/4" hole in the roof.

 

That wire is a damn near perfect fit for the channel next the windshield. Is the the wire that came with the light bar or some sort of wire sleeve?

I need to find something similar to that for my Rigid Industries wire harness. Wiring loom doesn't look very aesthetically pleasing in that location.

 

So i finally wired up my light bar, but decided not to drill the roof for now and just ran the power wire outside, along the edge of the windshield, down A pillar. Unfortunately the wire is too thick to shove in the gutter and the gutter moulding it super hard, so there is no way to use that as a channel to run the wire.

Any suggestions on how I could make the wire stay there securely? Some kind of clamps or something similar? I really don't feel like glueing the wire to my A pillar/windshield.

 

Problem solved... ish! Went to 3 hardware stores, Home Depot, Staples and Target today to find some kind of plastic clips... Came up empty. Did not want to buy a bunch of random clips online without looking at them either.

Came up with a solution - Puncture a hole in the moulding with a small screw driver, feed the zip tie through the hole. Seems to work for now, completely unobtrusive and cant even see from 3ft away. Lets see how long this lasts.

 

Put the light bar at the back of the cab an run the wire between the cab and canopy. Light bars above windshields are really excellent at producing glare, unless you're only going for looks.

 

Actually, I get absolutely no glare on the hood. The bar is attached to the PrInSu rack and the wind deflector is blocking just enough light to go past the front of the truck.

Just a word of caution, though.... if you are planning to run the wire up the door molding and under the headliner....be careful if you have side curtain airbags.

 

I'm in the same boat. How about some type of 3M adhesive plastic channel that could be placed along the a pilar glass and removed later in life?

Nice pull with the zip ties though.

 

This is interesting my wire doesn't stay in the little channel and was wondering how I can secure it... It looks like the zip ties lift the moulding off of the windshield, are you not worried about water intrusion?

I've seen installs where folks drill a hole under the roof molding. Seal it up with some silicone and you're good. Atleast thats how I'm planning to install my light bar down the road.

 

Nah. The wire just sits on top of the mounding, leaving the gutter completely unobstructed. Nothing is lifted. It just looks like that on the photos. I’ve had it like that for over a year now and haven’t had any issues, even after major rains. And you don’t even notice the wire.

Don’t drill your cab. Not only it is unnecessary, it’s just not worth the damage and gives you no room for an error, let alone the resale value.

I am keeping my truck until the wheels fall off, and I’m passing it down to my kid in a couple of years, once I pay it off. But if I was to buy a used truck and saw the holes someone drilled just to run a wire, I would nope the fuck out.
