Aside from one person who works as a logger, I haven't seen any other reports of the OEM tonneau cover "deteriorating after so many miles." So what is it? Many reports, or just one report? Sounds like your embellishing a tad here since it seems like you sell tonneau covers because you mentioned regarding Undercover, "it's the brand we use on all of our trucks for our customers at my office." Seems like a bit of conflict of interest as well.

I have over 8,000 miles on my tonneau, use it daily, have driven half way across the country and have removed it and pu tit back on a number of times already, most recently this past weekend when I moved a table and chairs. No issues so far.

Please cite your sources when you make suck claims. One person's account is a lot different than "others", which is pleural, which means more than one.

In that one thread of the piece breaking off, multiple members have reported the same issue.

Factory cover just doesn't seem high quality.

I like my OEM tonneau but will most likely be selling it because I have a camper shell on order and in the next several months will be traveling for the next few years and be on the road, so nowhere to store the tonneau. Just because people may be selling them, doesn't mean it's because they are all unhappy.

I work in the auto industry. We supply vehicles (all makes and models) to businesses. I say Undercover because we have used multiple covers and this is the one our customers always request. We are not a parts shop, we are a leasing company. The only thing we supply is the vehicle, everything else is done at a third party shop which we get 0 kickback from. Working in the industry for over 7 years now (Company for over 55 years), I know what is high quality and what to recommend to our customers for their vehicles. We have gone through Snugtop shells, which we find ARE Shells to be of better quality, gone through Snugtop Tonneaus and Leer, Undercover, etc. We give our input to our customers on what other customers have told us about the parts and how they have been holding up.

In this industry, one person may have a good experience but 10 others may not and that one person may never hear of the 10 others because they dont work in the industry.

Also, we have over 10 construction companies as customers, most of their vehicles have the Undercover and sees probably just as much abuse if not more than the logger. Never had one come back with a problem.

    Just sayin..

Also regarding the piece breaking off, it's most likely covered under warranty. If the OEM cover was on the truck when you bought it new it's covered under the vehicle's regular warranty, so you have 3 years / 36,000 miles. Seems like a decent warranty.

Most people who complain about the OEM tonneau cover (or anything else in the 3rd Gen forum) don't even have a 3rd Gen or that particular issue or accessory. They just pile on because one or two people make a big stink about it.

Just because its covered under warranty doesnt mean its of good quality. All third party covers you buy have a warranty for defective parts.

Let me say this, if you have the factory tonneau and its working for you... great! But for someone who does not have it and has been quoted over $1000, there are better covers for much cheaper out there.

If you get the Tonneau cover from the factory, its a $650 MSRP . $579 Invoice option. Which is a great price but buying it aftermarket, stay away.

When people first got the tonneau as the 3rd Gens were being released, the rear latch was having problems of not securing all the way. 3 people in that one thread have reported the same piece breaking off. Imagine how many others who are not members of TW have had the same issue. One logger has reported the tonneau is deteriorating but again imagine how many of these have been sold and are not members of TW to report their issues. It goes with anything, people come on here to complain about an issue, they call a company to complain about something. Rarely do people come on here to give praise about one item, its always the negative we hear and from that we make our assumptions on the product as a whole.

I am glad that the factory cover is working out for you but when I see 6 others say they are having problems with it and 1 person saying they dont, its not something I am going to recommend to my customers to order as an option but to get one done aftermarket which we have had 0 bad reports on.

For me, at the end of the day I have to keep my customers happy. Even though we do not supply the aftermarket parts, its a reflection on my company when something fails. The factory tonneau is not on my list of recommendations.

    ^ Agree

I got it for free with the truck so I'm happy to have it, a cover would have been one of the first things I bought. But it's not a tight seal around the edges and I don't like how it limits the back third of the bed. But it does work great with the locking tailgate and that alone is worth a lot

I picked up a BAKflip VIP... sits flush and the last fold puts it up against the cab of the truck leaving the whole bed accessible with a leg to secure it and it's padded where it touches the cab for protection. And no 3" seams showing on the outside.

You're apparently the new expert on tonneau covers now so I'll stop arguing with you. I mean, you've worked int he auto industry for 7 years as you mentioned, so you must know everything!

I am glad you finally understand how important I am in the industry.

With more training, you one-day may be as great as I. People will look back on this day and praise me as the Tonneau God, Ruler of all Covers.

Factory one blows... sits on top (UGLY), has a big plastic strip over each seam (UGLY) and doesn't flip up to open the last 3rd of the bed (inconvenient). Did I mention it's ugly?

3 year 36k mile warranty is way less than 3 years for most people. I easily drive 18k a year so that's 2 years for me...meh!

mats, flaps, and stickers. Extang solid fold 2.0. Mobtown sliders and full skids. AVS vents
Factory cover also includes the chopping of bed rails, correct? That's why I opted out of it.
