i flipped open my tonneau cover today and a piece broke off.

It is a small 1" hinge sealer piece.

    What part # is this?
Is it covered under warranty? (Have only 1700miles)
    Is it even orderable?

    Please see pictures.

Im thinking the factory overtightened and weakened the plastic neck. It seems that the 2 screws hold it in place and i would guess it be a replaceable piece

    Thx!image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

It was installed from the factory so it should have a warranty. I am not sure how long accessories are covered, but should be at least one year. It should outline it in your paperwork somewhere. The trouble may be in getting that piece due to availability issues, parts guy not knowing exactly how to order it, etc. I sure a few phone calls and a couple days of work they could get one for you though.

That should buff right out after your dealer replaces the broken bits!

Same thing happened to me - same color truck too! I'm taking mine in for service today. What did they end up doing for you at the dealership?

I've been hearing from others that these Factory Tonneau covers are falling apart quickly. Not surprising. Glad I was able to delete the one on my allocation before it left the factory. One less problem I have to deal with on my truck.

The same piece broke on mine at about 400 miles. It was replaced under warranty. It took the dealership a while to figure out the right part (had to re-order twice due to wrong part coming in), but eventually they got it. The broken piece will still work. Just insert it as you are closing the cover. The cover will hold it in place. Work order shows this PN: 6491804010 and the nomenclature is "cap".

Where have you seen all these posts of covers "falling apart" . This is the first one I've seen and many people including myself like the covers. They're actually sturdy and work great. Early on people had the bed cleats too far back and the cover wasn't closing properly letting some water in. Do you have nothing better to do besides trolling every thread? We get it you hate your truck.

Somebody posted about their truck having over 20k miles on it. They use it for work for the forest service. His assessment was trying to give insight to what has gone well and what hasn't so far on his truck in 20k miles

My factory tonneau has zero issues. I've taken it off and put it on the truck a bunch, it doesn't leak, and functions just fine for me. I'm hard on my stuff but don't abuse it.

Yes I've read through the whole thread by treehugger and in his first post about the pros and cons he put that the cover was deteriorating but he never elaborated on it, or posted any pictures of the cover or mentioned it again. So how do you know that the cover is really deteriorating or if it was an isolated incident like what happened to the OPS cover. And like others have mention to the OP I would take it in because the installed accessories have a limited warranty on them.

Me too. The only thing I did though was put a plate near the tail gate so that I can chain it to one of the "D" rings so some one with midget arms or a hook of sorts can engage the pull handle and open it when the tailgate is locked.

That's a good idea but it would be pretty hard to hook since the handle takes a good amount of force to pull on. How did you mount the plate?

So are there really that many other posts that you've apparently read about these falling apart, or just the treehugger thread that accounts for your assumptions? Lots of people tend to inflate claims here in TW. One persons experience or account of a situation can quickly become what everyone else adopts as the norm even if they have never experienced the same thing, let alone own that part, etc, then all of a sudden it's every factory tonneau cover that's a piece of shit!

One or two members having a piece break (that's actually covered under warranty) is a lot different than "these factory tonneau covers are falling apart quickly."

Plate on top sealed with some RTV with rounded carraige bolts with another "D" ring on the inside.

No pics ATM I'm working to pay of this habit of modding

I take stuff in and out of my bed too often. I had my cover deleted from dealer allocation. Waste of plastic for my purposes. Plus the ones I saw on lots didn't seem to fit flush and looked crappy.
