Some other 2016 Tacoma owner was experiencing the same exact issue and had posted a similar video and found a fix for it.. Did you search the forum?

Bought the plugs at Lowes Home Improvement yesterday and put them in as per your pics. Worked like a charm! I love those $4 5 minute fixes!

Check Toyota for their frame plugs.
    They may fit also.
Whatever fits best for the seal.
And I would fluid film the inside before installing the plugs.

I've hear this howl a few times during head winds at a specific speed and thought about plugging them but then decided i think they're speed holes!! You guys plugging them up are definitely losing HP. :D

Thank you, I just got back from the Maze District in Canyon Lands (Utah). While driving on one of the sand/gravel roads with the rear sliding window open we could hear the howl, yet we could not find the source. I will apply the tape fix until real fix comes along.

Great investigative work and persistence to the op and all who supported!

I didn't have any noise for the first 2000 miles. I installed OME 885 coil with top plate spacer in the front with TC UCA and then I started having the noise. The rear is not lifted yet (Should be done today).

I seem to have the blowing over coke bottle noise but I've narrowed it down to only when I am going around 20-60 mph (haven't gone faster to test since the speed limit is 55) and ONLY when slightly turning. When the wheels are straight, no noise, as soon as I induce a slight turn of the steering wheel, I hear the noise. It's more pronounced when going towards the right.

Just wondering if anyone has had similar scenario...This thread seems to address a noise that is constant at certain cruising speeds with no mention of if its during turns or just straight line. Also haven't seen anyone mention if they were stock or lifted. If anyone has any idea of what this could be, all advice is greatly appreciated.

I will try the LCA solution to see if it helps at all, but with the noise only being when the wheel is slightly turned, I doubt it's the same solution...

Nothing fancy, yet. Weathertech mats front/back + their mud guards, some reflective striping and custom carpets on the storage bin lids underneath the jump seats.
I found the Hillman plugs at Lowe's as anticipated. Since water needs a place to go and these holes may be the outlets, I opted to drill about a 6mm hole in the center of each cap with a uni-bit to allow water to escape. I plugged the largest hole on top of the assembly with an undrilled plug, however. Also, as others have found, these plugs fit but aren't exactly real snug. So, I smeared a little black RTV on the sides of them before installation and then wiped off the excess.
As you might can see in the photo, I didn't plug all the holes. If the problem persists, I may move the plugs around or simply buy some more. At $0.52 apiece, it's not going to cost much to try. =)

Hey Bella, it's been a while since I stopped by here (after I got my DCLBOR in the fall I'd had enough of the insanity/trolling to last a while :) ) but this has been making me nuts recently! I'm hoping this is also the cause of the howling I get in cross winds.

Thanks for the research on this! I was figuring it was something like this but have been waiting for warm wether to spend time under the truck. It's May 1 here in Colorado and it is snowing .. sigh ... tired of winter!

I had a Cadillac CTS that had a noise in the back. It was never resolved and I hated hearing it for 5 years. I finally decided to purchase a new 2016 Tacoma. On my test drive when my wife took a turn I noticed the sound right away. I had been bitching about the Cadillac and my wife was very happy to move on. I was crossing my fingers that when I ordered my truck that it didn't have the same howl I picked it up from the dealer and started down the road and my heart sunk. It had the same noise. My wife didn't understand why I wasn't excited about bringing home a brand new truck. Well I new it was some kind of wind noise from below the vehicle. There were so many holes and I new it must be one of them sounding like blowing across a beer bottle opening. Thanks I don't think I woul have ever put tape on that combination and can take off all the other areas I had accumulated. It was an instant fix. I only have 500 miles on it so I have a hundred thousand miles of smiles to go!!!!

So does this mean you can just go to dealer and they will do this for free ?

Now depends on who you are talking about, this shouldn't be to hard to discover. The howling noise has a specific sound and I remember driving with my gardener
to a local nursery in his truck to pick up a full grown palm tree. Wile he's driving, proceed to tell me about the noise his truck was making at certain speeds. I told him that was the noise from the prongs of his extension ladder on the rack above his truck. No Victor isn't it, blab blab blab. Next time he visited my house I was waiting for him
with a can of insulating foam and as he went on and start working, I filled with foam all the open ends of the aluminum extension ladder with the staff. He sow me and started again with the same blah, blah... Next day after he clean the excess foam from my previous day fix, he called me to say that I have special powers....
It is air and makes a specific noise.
