Absolutely. Since the truck is pre-wired, you just need the (readily available) adapter cable to go from the connector to the controller. There's one that a lot of folks use that just jams in the little cubby to the left of the steering wheel (you have to make a hole in the cubby for the wire, but that's about it).

    Check out this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/trailer-brake-controller.398124/

Here's the one a lot of folks are using: https://www.amazon.com/Tekonsha-Trailer-Controller-Toyota-Tundra/dp/B00QZ8YK16?ie=UTF8

Now, I don't know a lot about boat trailers, so they may not typically use electric brakes because they get dunked in water. For instance the Ranger link in this thread has a trailer with surge brakes so you would not even need a brake controller. So please don't assume you need a brake controller, but if you do, it's not a big deal.

Pontoon boats are like towing a billboard. Wind resistance is worse than weight. Bad boats tow easiest because of low profile. My 18' weighs 3200 without gas and gear. Probably 3500 loaded up. It tows easier. Not sure about tongue weight on ski boats but inboards weigh much more than OBs. Tongue depends on boat design and position on trailer. Open bows will normally be lower than closed bows.

Boat trailers will have no brakes or surge brakes. I've never seen one with electric brakes. I doubt electric would do well being dunked at the boat ramp. If the OP is looking in the 18-19' range, the trailer likely won't come standard with brakes, depending on state laws. Less than 4K doesn't require brakes in a lot of states so they aren't included.

Trailers should be setup so that tongue weight is ~10% of total weight, regardless of boat type. Too little tongue weight can be a bad thing.

A mercruiser 3.0 inboard weighs 515 lbs, a mercury 200 opitmax weighs 505 lbs. A ski boat has more glass on the bow than a bass boat.
I do agree with the wind resistance of towing a pontoon, however, the lighter weight makes it feel easier.

The best of any boat will be ranger. The Reata series fish-n-play are pretty nice, but as mentioned earlier, they are costly. The boat will cost more than your truck.:D
As for quality and customer support, Nitro boats are good. They have a Z7 Sport that can do quite well for the average boater.
Also, I have seen Nitro take care of customers like no other company as far as warranty goes.
