ScanGaugeII - 2016 Trans Fluid Temp Codes That WORK!!!

I don't think that's the transmission used in the 2016's, is it?
Online it mentions 2014...

no it is not but perhaps these shreds of information about temp sensors and the roles in an aisin tranny
will lead someone who is more resourceful than just 'someone get me the codes for a 2016' to go get
the info from techinfo or reverse engineer the canbus communication from a techstream

the new tranny in the 2016 uses the same type of temp sensors for the same reasons, but they are
obviously using a different message ID's on the canbus than earlier models

someone with a techstream could find the message ID's from the canbus that would solve the issues in programming scangauge, [I think....]

 

And you may be correct...but the codes I'm using for the transmission fluid temperatures on the ScanGauge came from ScanGauge so until someone comes up with some new ones I'm using these.

I take it the TT-Pan and TT-Conv are the transmission fluid temperature read-outs? Sure are a lot lower than the ones I'm seeing right now.

What gauge set-up is that?

 

Just checked the http://www.scangauge.com/support/x-gauge/toyota-specific/ website and they're now listing those codes for the 2016 Tacoma.

Can anyone who has used them verify the fluid temperatures? Mine is appearing to be VERY HIGH compared to the temperature the fluid is supposed to be at.

 

that is torque pro version. you can setup the screens display however you want. more or less dials, 1/2 dials, ect.

TT Pan & TT Conv is suppose to be the temp sensor at the pan and the either at the converter or on the output side of the converter, cant remember.

the only 2 dials that don't read directly from the ecu are the trip mileage and avg mpg.

Cat is the catalytic converter bank 1 sensor 1

also if you notice each dial has a green dot. that is a heartbeat indicator for that dial. lets you know the update interval of that particular pid/sensor. if you look some are full green and some are faded.

 

take my temps with a grain of salt. you have to take into consideration that my intake temp was 50F so the temps will be lower due to being colder outside.

Depending on vehicle conditions, weather conditions, and driving conditions, the transmission temperature can range from 145 to 195. Towing will normally bring the temperature up around 200 on the low end. It is not unusual in summer months for the readings to be around 185-195. The TF1 sensor is located above the shift solenoid and the TF2 sensor is located lower near the pan. The TF1 best represents the transmission fluid temperature. The TF2 is effected by the trans cooler and whether or not air is passing through it such as when stopped at a light. The TF2 reading will fluctuate more than the TF1 reading.

this pretty much confirms that damnfingers post about temps being the same leads me to believe you are using the same sensor for both readings as scangauge has confirmed that you should be seeing 2 different temp readings. the pan temp should be lower due to the sensor being after the cooler and the converter temp should be higher.

only reason you should have the pan temp is to let you know something is wrong if both temps are the same between the converter and pan.

edit : forgot to add, if you are seeing temps in the 210F or higher for extended periods you might want to look into why. you will hit those numbers of your constantly trying to pull a trailer and torque converter isn't working correctly. best bet is to force the transmission into 5th or 4th to take the converter out of the equation.

yes you will go thru more gas, but your transmission will thank you.

note : if you see temps in 210+ and you drop it down 1-2 gears (2016+) or 1 gear in the 2nd gen your temps will drop back down into the 185 range.

this app i used helped a lot when pulling a 6x12 uhaul trailer with the 2012 Tacoma for the daughters college year. forced me to make sure I kept the temps in the 185 range at all times.

 

NoDak...not sure what you're saying here. I am seeing two different temperatures as you can see from the last photo where I'm stopped, TF1 is 190, TF2 is 199. The email I sent to ScanGuage that brought about the response above was in part:

"I’m beginning to question the validity of these (temps) anyway. My ScanGauge is reporting my transmission temps (TF1 and TF2) as being in the 190 dF range which I find hard to believe in a new truck. Before I take it back to the dealer and spend $135 to have him check the fluid level is there anyway you can double check?"

I was questioning what I considered were high temperatures, not where they were being taken from.

Now, back to where the two temperature readings are taken...they appear to correlate to the take-off points in the picture posted of the A750E/F transmission in post #20 in which case you're correct, there isn't one being taken from the pan. But does it matter since they're being taken from the transmission control points? And yes, I know this isn't the 2016 transmission but that shouldn't affect take-off points and what TF1 and TF2 are used for.

 

yes in any aisin transmission the temp sensors may be physically be inside the same valve body plate, but they
are checking completely different fluid pathways temps and perform separate functions


one temp is used for basically lockup of clutches and brakes, the other is shift points

 

Have you tried S-mode? I'm kind of curious if your temp would go down due to the flex lock being limited.

 

Wonderful having the ScangaugeII on line for management.

 

Not yet...the truck is less than a week old and I'm still getting used to it...and not getting to drive it much at that. Maybe someone else with one can check?

These codes aren't working for me. I have triple checked that I have entered them correctly.
I have two gauges, one is ver 4.06 the other is ver 4.13, the codes don't work in either.
Both TF1 & TF2 read exactly the same and range from 150 to 3000 or higher depending on RPM's.

Any ideas?? TIA
