Anyone have their light bar attached to thier factory roof rack?

Hello all.

Trying to decide if I want to add a 40 inch curved single row CREE style light bar to my roof rack using the Rough Country Mounts.

Any thoughts, opinions, regrets, suggestions or any issues you have had with this setup? I have heard of wobbling, loose light bars, noise and glare issues. Any truth to any of those issues?

Also could you attach some pictures of your set up so I can get an idea of the look?

Oh but I have, for many weeks now. I am specifically looking for people that have mounted their light bar to the factory roof racks. If I missed a thread please feel free to point me in the right direction..

 

I have no wobbling because the rivets were popped in the right way. There is some wind noise, but it's nothing the radio can't drown out. No issues with this setup.

 

I think @DoubleRGirl has one mounted on a factory roof rack. Check out her build thread.

 

Mine were made by a member who isn't making them anymore. But @jpham got some from a company, I always forget the name

 

I went with the RC mount. Instead of using rivets, I took te rack off and used stainless nuts and bolts with fender washers on the back side. I also moved the brackets back a little over an inch and re-cut the curve for the cross bar.

Do you have a close up side picture of the bar mounted on your repositioned RC mounts? Also, did moving it back reduce the amount of glare on the hood?

Moving it back does nothing for the glare. It was just preference on how it looked.

 

Hello all, got my light bat and mounts, looking forward to the install. How did you guys run your wire from the bar? Anyone running a factory foglight switch for THIER light bar? Wondering if a factory switch can handle the light bar.

I ran mine down the rain gutter at the edge of the windshield. Used black high strength silicone to glue it down. Trimmed the rubber piece where it passes through and ran the wires to the outside of the hinge. Using a relay with the high beams on the pos side of the control and a push switch (still haven't recieved the correct one after ordering from China) controlling the neg side. That way I can have the light bar off or on with my high beams.

 

^i just pulled my weather stripping back and put the wire under there. no issues, been like that for a year

Windsor, do you get any wind noise or vibrations from your setup at highway speeds?

Yes. But I am waiting for the visor that I ordered to get here before I make changes to try to get rid of it.
With just the light bar, I get the high pitched noise from the bar itself, and at 60+ it actually vibrates my roof enough to cause the headliner to rattle against it.
With my basket on, I only get a little bit of wind noise. About the same level that I get from my window vent visors just a little bit higher pitch.
With either configuration, the noise can be covered up by turning up my music.
