You can pick up a cheap dremel from home depot for $30 and it can run off the plug in the bed. I use mine for a lot of my projects, so it's definitely paid for itself! Something to think about.

Just wanted to give you a huge THANK YOU. Originally I thought it was a little over the top with how in depth your descriptions were, but you just saved my CBs life. I almost threw the damn thing in the trash! This post in specific helped me. I got rid of my firering and got a regular coax, but then had a SWR of 10.5. I knew something was wrong! The hole I drilled for the mount was too small, and the antenna was grounding out, or something like that. I drilled it bigger, reinstalled, and bam! SWR of 1.00 on CH1 and 1.8 on CH40 without any tuning. Thank you so much

Here's where I routed my new cable. Not sure if it's an option on the third gens. No pinching of any sorts.

Yeah, another member told me the same thing about my descriptions and I just have this tendency to try to be as descriptive as possible. I am NOT patting myself on the back, just saying that someone told me the same thing. I get very "chatty", LOL!!!:rofl::rofl::D I will say that I am very happy that I was able to help someone out there!!! I also want to thank you for thanking me like that "in the open" as well!!! I thank YOU for that because you didn't have to do that, if you get my meaning?! Thank you and it was my pleasure!!!:fistbump::cheers:

    Happy Wheel'n people :mudding:

I get what you're saying! It's the least I can do for saving me a headache. This thread is becoming a great resource for all future people looking to install a CB in their truck.

I'm looking to install my setup next weekend. Has anyone installed their CB in the center console on the 3rd Gen yet? My question if you have is, do you have issues hearing it?

With the console closed it will probably be hard, a small speaker under driver's seat sounds great tho

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. But I want it in a spot that is inconspicuous. May have to figure something else out haha.

I would like to squeeze an external under my seat or somewhere as well. It just kind of makes sense.

    Gonna install my stuff tomorrow.
Any suggestions on a small, inexpensive external speaker?

Vanco makes a CB external speaker that you can buy off of eBay for about $11.00 and about $3.00 shipping. That is what I have for my external.

Also, as mentioned by Sub-Zero post #228 of this thread here is an external spkr: Astatic 302-VS4 5W/8 Noise Cancelling External Cb Speaker for a very decent price on Amazon

How do I shorten/lengthen a Francis CB antenna?

Your Francis antenna should come pre-tuned and have a SWR of 1.5 or better.

Btw, the external spkr is just a 8ohm speaker with a mono 3.5mm jack! Vancouver is the cheapest that I know of?

    OK. Thanks WileE!!!
Should be up and running tomorrow afternoon. I hope the SWR is below 1.5. If not, then there's no ability to lengthen/shorten the Francis antenna's
