    @bobby_bearpaw on the gram

5'11" 245 (right now). I was down to 239 and then I started eating everything in sight the last two weeks. My BF% is probably terrible (considered obese); I have never actually checked. I will never be "shredded," but I will dead lift 500 pounds. That's a trade I am willing to make.

Same. Every pair of work pants and jeans I have you can see the outline of my ding-ding and the pants are skin tight down to my knees. DUnno if it's a good thing or not, but it sure is uncomfortable...that's why I wear gym shorts 100% of the time I'm not at work

I stop at 90 degrees, which is about an inch above my chest. I've found (for me) on incline press, when I go below 90 degress, my shoulders start playing a bigger role to the point where it almost hurts. If the weight is light enough, I'll go all the way to my chest, but I'm not willing to risk tearing something in my shoulder at a heavier weight. Everything else though, I go to the chest.

Also, I'm digging your 'Gram...a fellow hunter and fisherman

    lol sig'd

Lifting heavy is important to me, but being lean is importanter.

I normally do 6 sets, 3 heavy at 90 degrees and 3 til failure at a lighter weight just to get everything stretched out. I feel best at 90 as well, if I go too low with a heavier weight my shoulders can't handle it either.

I'd have it no other way, I'm proud to say i don't fit the asian stereotype haha

I've done both but usually I go parallel on dbs and I touch with barbells. Everyone is different though. Just keep doing what you've been doing especially if you're seeing good results.

Should we clog this thread up, start another, or go DM?

You may have just found one who far surpasses your anger in general and on this matter sir.

I'll confess. I do like a handful of Toby Keith songs.

Pics or it didn't happen. (No homo?)

I stop at 90. Like Sack said, I feel my shoulders a lot more if I go lower. AND it hurts my shoulders on incline if I go lower. So, 90 degrees it is.
I'm gonna be shredded AND dead 500.

Ok, maybe not SHREDDED, but 5'8, 170-180 and hopefully sub 15% BF by the time I hit 500. It'll be a while. But it's gonna happen.

I don't even listen to country radio anymore. Zac brown and Eric Church are all j can stand.

Possibly one of the worst songs I've ever had the displeasure of hearing. That, and doin it to country songs or whatever that stupid Blake Shelton song is. They make me want to take 2 Letter openers and shove in each ear until they touch somewhere in the middle.

I think a few people in here compete but I'm trying to do something like that and have no clue what I am looking for. Did some googling but only find competitions for physique. I'm not trying to parade around like a male model and flex up with a bunch of juiced up fools. I want to put my gainz to the test and compete with people in the same height/weight class. I know crossfit has "competitions" but I don't want to have to stoop to that. The only other thing I can think of is one of those "mud runs" or "spartan races"...

Anyone else do stuff like that or know of anything?

Spartan Races are great - good test of strength for a lot of the obstacles. BUT there is a lot of running/distance in between obstacles, that's why a lot of the top elite guys look like runners - very lean. Not really the best for a comparison of similar body types tho :notsure:

Sooo, you want a weight lifting competition?

A couple of my buddies were going to go to one last year, but ended up getting hurt before it. I know another guy that just did a competition a few weeks ago at the SPF nationals. Think he had a total of 1950 or somewhere close in the 259 LB class. Pulled a 750 deadlift. (He's also on anything and everything he can get his hands on).

Yeah I hate running. I run a 5/8k on thanksgiving with my wife so we can stuff our face all day and not feel bad. Other than that I do the least amount as possible. I do sprints sometimes but the longest is 45sec so I don't count that as running. I could do all the obstacles, but I'd prefer them to be back to back to back...like American ninja warrior style

I saw that website but couldn't figure out if it was for amateur or not. And I'd also not want to go against juicers for obvious reasons. I'm only 5'9" and 170 (but I'd prefer to be 160 if I was limited to a weight class) but feel like I'm strong for my size :notsure:

So I'm down at the beach for the holiday, here till next Wednesday. Was going to go on a gym break for the duration but it was rainy today so I decided to get a leg day in. Walked in to the gym down here to 2 brobags doing all upper workouts. They were on the only bench when I got there. One was doing 315, the other 225. They were big dudes, probably 6' 200lbs but that weight was from the waste up. Looked like if they bumped into a coffee table they would snap and topple over. They went from the bench to doing some shoulder stuff. The last thing I saw the bigger one doing was military press with an EZ curl bar with just 25s on each side...wearing a belt...

From what I have gathered from your posts, you are looking for a power lifting or strongman competition. The problem with not wanting to go up against juicers is that the competitions that are truly for "natty" lifters only are going to require testing, and it is going to make the competition pretty expensive for you to enter.

I see you're in NC, I don't know if any of these gyms are close to you, but check them out: http://startingstrength.com/coaching/gyms. The starting strength gyms have competitions for their lifters (and others) relatively frequently. There are weight divisions (198, 220, 242, etc.), and a "masters" (older lifters) division. I go to the competitions at the gym in Westminster, MD a couple of times a year. It is a great atmosphere. It is competitive, but everyone is routing for the other guys to succeed.

TLDR? Call around to local power lifting or starting strength gyms and see if they are hosting any competitions.
