Bobbed the bed last weekend

 

Black taco lives! Started it for the first time in like a month. And it looks more like a truck again!

 

So when do the new fenders go on?

 

The high temps are from over working the torque converter. It generates a tremendous amount of heat with no way to dissipate it.

There are two aspects to this, so there are two things you must change.

One is to reduce the load on the torque converter. 4hi in drive = high heat generation. One option is to hold it in a lower gear. Better yet, shift to 4lo. You do that and the temps will start to come down immediately.

The other aspect is to help with cooling the trans fluid by adding an external cooler. There are a ton a good threads on this topic. Don't be lazy, read some of them. Start with this thread:

I have to go map a trail tomorrow but hopefully it shouldn't take too long. But then we'll begin that process. I've got a few small things to button up on it then we can start actually mounting them.

I need to change for a few reasons!

 

It's kind of disappointing, I was literally only 20 minutes into the trail.

 

It doesnt take long in 100 degree weather to hit 200+ in a tranny. I did that with my wife's trailblazer last week on the highway.

I am still curious at what point that light comes on. 300 degrees seems a little late.

 

Please tell me you stitched welded that and not one long bead..

 

I welded about half of that length then let it cool for awhile then the other half.

 

Anyone here done a fuel pump kill switch?

 

Finally got the rebuild kit for my other coilover.

 

To prevent theft? I just read a writeup for a 90s honda/acura. Looks straight forward..

 

If my fluid was burnt would it a brownish color? Sorry for all the questions about it.

 

Possibly, it will smell burnt, smell some good trans fluid and then smell yours, the difference will be noticeable.

 

I'll give that a try when I get home.

What should I replace it with?

 

IIRC it should be Dexron II atf or any other ATF that's compatible with Dex II

Just go to the dealer and say you need trans fluid for your 99 v6 automatic tacoma.
