Dammit. I've been worried cause it stopped working after an update and hasn't been happy since. I can't get it to do what I want right now. I'll have to risk messing up something worse by changing the folder default I guess.

    Welcome!

This is why I make judicious use of "file to trash" rules in my email.

Hello IT people. So I have an older laptop and I ended up re-doing the thermal paste and added copper shims in place of the silicon pads. The shims are in contact with the CPU & GPU. I followed a thread on another forum that a good write up; I saw on ad on Amazon for the shims I needed and for $1.56 for two, so I got them.

I did not put a shim on the "northbridge," what the heck is a "northbridge?"

Depends what you searched . Hopefully it answers your question. On some (older) high performance mother boards the northbridge would actually have a small heatsink and some even a fan. So it's your call. You can monitor the temp for concerns if you'd like?

The only cooling feature I see is the paste that I put on, and the silicon pad. Based on the wiki you found, it seems like a good idea to put a shim on this as well. I should have ordered two packs of the shims.

My temps are much better and no stutters on other websites I have been on that would stick (sorry for the lack of technical terms).

    GISF: GIAC Information Security Fundamentals

anyone taken this? and if so, can you point me in the direction of study material? I'm not opposed to buying a book or materials; the stuff I have found on Amazon received bad reviews, and the courses on the SANS website are listed at $5600.

I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible. Thank you for your info!

Resolution was "pretty easy" I just needed to add explicit security options to the clients.

    #mount -t cifs //server/share /mnt/share -o guest,sec=ntlmv2

And she worked. The sec=ntlmv2 line is what did it.

i have never witnessed a job description requiring a SANS cert and only a SANS cert. usually they take other equivalents that are cheaper.

I was actually reading a few job postings and they had mentioned GIAC certifications, so out of curiosity I googled it. I've seen it on a few job postings, but I do agree there are probably other certifications as well.

I think the 5600 price tag is for the classes offered, not for taking the test.
