I have a ToyTec boss lift with diff drop and sway bar relocated. When I go over speed bumps at medium/slow speed I hear a rattle/clunk coming from the front end. I got under the truck and yanked on the CV and it has some play in it and makes a sound similar to what I hear going over bumps. Is that play in the CV normal? If it's the CV causing the noises what would the problem be? Are they loose, is there a bushing somewhere that is toast? Not familiar with CVs so just checking to see what you all think.

Re torque everything, and a little play in the CV is normal. Take out the Diff Drop as well not needed on 2nd and 3rd Gen Tacoma's. I had it after my lift and re torqued the lower shock mounts, cam bolts, UCA bolts etc etc etc.

Did you get it aligned? And are those Stock UCA's?

Try lightly applying the brakes while you go over a bump, most likely its your pads rattling around in the caliper, if it goes away with the brakes applied its for sure just the pads rattling around. Absolutely normal, every tacoma/4-runner on the road makes that noise.

I have the same exact set up and the same noise. Did you figure it out?

Not yet, I have not really tried to figure it out, been too busy. I did try to look at the body mounts and they seems ok, but i need to look closer.

I've had an issue with my drivers side needle bearing in the front diff groaning ever since I had my lift installed. I'm only +2.5" over stock and have a diff drop installed. You're saying the diff drop isn't needed? I'm gonna be pissed if trying to keep the cvs closer to stock angles is what's caused the needle bearing groan....

Diff drops are not needed on our 2nd or 3rd gen Tacoma's. And any lift will generally add the groan as the stock needle bearing are not meant for lifting

I had bad clunk/clanks post OME lift install for about a year, which drove me nuts. Took out the diff drop a few weeks ago and the noises are completely gone.

I even bought new strut mounts, LCA bushings, ECGS bearing thinking it would be any of those, I was wrong.

I've been reading about removing the diff drop kit. I'm going to try it to see if it gets better.

    Do it!

I went over all my suspension components multiple times, re-torqued everything and found nothing loose or out of place. It was the fucking diff drop the whole time.

Great, looks like I need to pull my diff drop as well. I didn't actually install mine, is it pretty straight forward to remove?
