Personally I don't see what the problem is. You punch this thing it sounds awesome as it revs up and moves out, period ! It surprised me.
It has the power I need and more. I don't know what people are looking for out of a 6, really.

I saw your video of the trails, the tundra would go through there no problem. Honestly those are 2wd trails--I drive something similar to work every day.

That was the first time out to test the truck out.

Only pic I have of a tighter trail as I'm usually by myself and driving.

Im not sure the atkinson cycle is even necessary. Why not keep it standard 3.5 lt like the ridgeline and gm twins. I think thats whats killing its torque number in day to day driving. The engineer which thought that was an improvement should be slapped and shown the door .

Atkinson is activated by the VVT system. Only used during low load, cruising type scenarios. At all other times it's using Otto Cycle. Makes same torque as 4.0

Drive the new ridgeline with same hp and tq numbers and you will scratch your head. That truck has instant power on hand and feels properly powered. That was the only time I started questioning whatever toyota did on this atkinson cycle crap. Ridgeline has none of that and same hp and tq with same weight and feels so much better.

Have you had the TSB done on your truck yet? I haven't had mine done but some people are claiming that the truck feels stronger off the line.

I agree lol, I just couldnt believe toyota got out engineered on the powertrain. I thought toyota mastered the truck game since they've been in it for like 50 yrs

yes my truck has it and drives nice, Im just stating it does not compare to the powertrain in honda. To be fair honda used tuned down mdx powertrain in the ridgeline. Toyota needs to improve its drivetrain issues are they WILL fall to its competitors. I love my taco but do I feel Toyota couldve done better ? Absolutely !! Especially after I test drove the ridgeline. Anybody in doubt should do that and will agree immediately

It's going to feel more peppy when it's FWD. no drivetrain losses like a real truck

I only test drove it because my fiance works for HOnda and asked me to compare the two. It is night and day actually on (drivetrain). I hated the stiff suspension and low ground clearance compared to my off road. Seats again are night and day difference compared to my taco.

I returned the honda literally scratching my head and wondering wtf ?? it has same hp and tq as mine.

Honda > 3.5 lt and 6 sp auto
toyota > suspension and offroad capability

    imho

I think it may be due to the electronic throttle. The days of cable throttles are long gone. Now when you push on the accelerator the computer decides how fast the throttle is going to open. It feels like Toyota has a slow throttle response. My wifes 2011 Highlander which also has a 3.5 feels like it responds quicker at idle speeds.

That's why we need a tuner/programmer. Toyota has the electronics really dumbed down.

Agreed, I was hoping that they dealt with that issue on the TSB.

I know there is a difference like the Lexus GS to the ES. It has more to do with instant throttle response and power delivery. Im telling you toyota drop the ball and need to respond quickly. Anybody who doesnt agree doesnt know what he doesnt know
