Hey guys, has anyone had any experiencing removing the interior trim on the driver side's B pillar? Also, has anyone had a rattle come from that area?

Basically looking for tips on removing the plastic interior pieces near the driver's side window, over your left shoulder where the seat belt buckle is fastened to (it doesn't appear to be simple).

I ask because I currently have a rattle that is getting progressively worse as time goes by. Yes, I could bring it into the dealership but I'm sure they'll say "we can't hear it" or "its normal". The sound is similar to a small tapping like plastic on metal. Most noticeable when going over bumps or bumpy roads.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Check the seatbelt see if it is rattling there? Also inside glove box or under dash have heard of some folks finding a wiring harness that is loose or out of place and rattling against the side of the plastic.

Thanks @smitty99 - it's definitely not the seatbelt rattling or the glovebox/dash area. I've been monitoring this sound for a little over a month now and its coming right next to my left ear while driving. It's somewhere inside the plastic part that houses the seatbelt components. Hard to explain the sound other than it's a slight tapping noise like plastic on glass or metal.

Sorry I'm a jackwagon. I got the drivers side and passenger side mixed up somehow. I guess I'm just used to seeing the complaint be from the Passenger side. Reading fail. My bad. Wonder if a fastening clip is broken somewhere inside the door panel. Do you have any interior mods? (aftermarket sound systems or cables running through there?)

I read a lot of the stuff on here and don't really recall this particular complaint.

Do you need to know, or care?
Just sayin'..try to track down exactly where that sound is coming from. It might sound like it's from the pillar, but could be in the headliner just on the edge. Maybe a loose wire tapping away over bumps.

No worries man and I've been on this forum pretty frequently too, but can't recall seeing anything about a driver's side rattle either.

Oh and I've kept everything stock. I have a slew of separate issues that I don't want the dealer to blame aftermarket add-on's as the culprit (if I had any). My truck vibrates and buzzes during acceleration which I'm sure has contributed to this rattle.

I have to take my headliner down but mine is associated to the moon roof. If I open it, it quits rattling...close it and it rattles. annoying!

I had this problem. I tracked it down to the grey bar that runs across the front. There is a very thin strip of padding that the bar comes down and makes contact with. I replaced that padding with something heftier and rattle went away.

I actually have this in the drivers side pillar. That's where I've narrowed it down to. Seems to be bad at times at certain RPMs and speeds. Its barely noticeable if I have the radio on.

Thanks man, great vid! Have you fixed the rattle and/or pulled the interior plastic off to pinpoint the source?

I had the exact same issue. Look at post #33 on page two of this link. I believe this will fix it, it fixed mine and it's been silent for two weeks so far. Basically spray wd40 in the little holes on the rubber weather stripping, to line the inside of the stripping.
I also went to Home Depot and bought some of the small round fuzzy bumpers that go on the bottom of furniture legs, that prevent the furniture from scratching floors. I placed one of the one the inside of the door to make it shut a little tighter. The combination of these two things has completely fixed my rattle.
    Good luck

I've got the same driver door rattle, and the glove box/ dash rattle, and wind noise. Don't feel like taking it by dealer. I'll research a little more, then decide how I want to tackle it.

My window rattles like an annoying buzzing noise.. Try to crack your window open a little and see if you can hear the window make some noise. if you press on the window does it make a clicky noise? I find that i have to crack the window open for a little and than close which helps stop the rattle... I think the seals aren't holding tight for some reason and the wind is causing the window vibrate or move; probably because of the heat and expansion. Mine never did this in the winter.. I hear silicone spray helps, but i have not yet been able to pick some up yet.

    all tore up already
got a similar rattle in mine, i suspect its related to the seat belt inside the pillar. wouldnt be bad if the sound didnt come from a spot about 4 inches from my left ear. may have gotten used to it, but it doesnt bother me like it did when my truck was new

I thought mine was inside the seat belt pillar too but trust me, the wd40 in the weather stripping holes will fix it. Mine also sounded like it was right at my ear.

So I tried the WD-40 inside the seals today and no luck. However, I didn't spray a ton of it inside the seals though like the OP said to do from the link you provided....maybe I can try putting in more? Worth a shot.

So can I ask you, what did your rattle sound like? Mine is like a plastic on metal tapping type of sound. Oh and do you have a '16 Taco or a 2nd gen? Just asking to see if you have any differences than my situation. Thanks again!

Yes mine is a 16 Tacoma. My rattle was a metallic tapping/ticking noise, mostly when I made a left turn. I'm gonna post s pic of where I placed that furniture leg bumper, i believe that may solve the issue as well. It will tighten the door seal. Also, did you spray the wd40 in all the holes? Spray it very liberally and see if it makes a difference.

Try this, put a pad where that little rubber stopper on the door contacts the pad. Get the pads that are pretty thick. This will tighten the seal of the door. A combination of this and the wd40 completely stopped my rattle. Like you, I thought it was in the seat belt area and I removed the pillar and fooled with that for two days before realizing that wasn't where it was coming from.
