Does anyone have any experience with this ems? I feel like i heard some 1st genners have used it but im particularly interested in insight from 2nd genners (05-09 4.0 specifically but any input is welcome) pending a compression test, ill soon be turbo'd (well u know soon like sooner than i was yesterday i guess haha) ive seen several install vids on youtube and it looks simple enough (like 3 wires for the map sensor, and iat, and one rof rpms i think plus each injector) the unit plus a wireing harness is about $1200 but i cant find any base maps to load as a safe starting point and im kinda new to this and didnt wanna screw anything up.

I haven't looked into this tuner yet, but it looks pretty good. It is a full standalone. It's pretty involved stuff. It runs off volumetric efficiency so it will self tune for the most part off your wideband. Not a bad price for what it does. Maybe start off with a piggy back first to get the hang of things first. You could probably max out the stock block with a piggy back. Something like an aem fic or mapecu3

ok, I was unaware that I could even run with the stock ecu if I upgraded the fuel pump and injectors I guess I thought I had to have a stand alone. so how will a piggy back work? it just intercepts the signal before the ecu does and adjusts it as it sees fit basically tricking the stock ecu into doing what you want it to (up to its limits I assume).

Piggy backs have their limitations, but they will control basic features. Fuel, timing, and accessories. Some cannot adjust for larger injectors, nor add timing. Others can. They might not be able to remove governors.

Map-Ecu is a good piggy back. So are the higher end AEM piggy backs. All around $700. Boomslang might even make a plug n play harness for any of the three listed, to make things easier. Just need to look that up, as well as the features each piggy back has available.

Then comesthe ease of tune-ability. The Megasquirt and Map-Ecu's are generally user friendly. I do not know about AEM.

Those 2 piggyback can work with larger injectors. The mapecu can handle 2x larger injectors and or run aux injectors. Not sure what the aem can handle but probably right around the same. Pretty much makes a good starting point for low boost. You can move up to a standalone when things get serious.

cool so the price is basically the same, the mega squirt assembled is like $100 cheaper but doesn't come with all harnesses and lines so its pretty much a wash. are there people that y'all know of running the maps ecu either here or maybe on rxunder ground or custom tacos that would be a shoulder to cry on when I cant get things to work? and 2x larger injectors, I assume the 61lb injectors from urd would fall into that size, so that should work right? just planning on running 7 ish psi of boost btw

61lb injectors might be a bit overkill. You could run full e85 and make about 450hp. You really only want to run as large of injectors as you need with a bit of overhead. If you are into tuning yourself the piggyback is a great stepping stone. I'm a bit biased towards mapecu because it was the easiest one to teach myself. They have a whole forum. You just gotta know what you are talking about. Also if you are really lazy you can tune a 7th injector. You just add fuel when you need it. That is just one table and pull a bit of timing. No base map needed.

U can run e85 on stock injector? There are only a couple places around me that sell it but i had thought it would be a nice option if it gets more popular. Also there is a place right by my work that started selling e15 which is 92 octane i think, and i was gonna try and tune for that (its a nickle cheaper a gal that e10 87 octane)

I was just saying 61's are pretty big. You need more injector to run e85. Takes about 30% more fuel to run e85. Mapecu3 can tune for e85 now. Your stock injectors will run out of fuel with e85.

Thats what i was thinking, i had planned on gettin the 61s and the deathwerks fuel pump kit since all that is multi fuel compatable in case it was viable down the road
