5000 mile service visit today . Oil and filter, tire rotation , blind spot monitor fixed , QI pad fixed, but the biggest thing was the software update to correct the shifting issue . My truck feels like a completely different vehicle now . The constant searching for gears and hard shifting automatic transmission is all but gone . I can't believe how much smoother and enjoyable the ride is now . I live in a very hilly area, and the shifting was a constant annoyance . I had to travel three hours to get to the nearest reputable dealer to have this done , so I had a long ride home to test the repair . It also appears this fix is going to better the gas mileage , as I got 24.9 MPG on the way home . This was about 95% driving in 55 mile an hour speed zones. I kept the speed between 55 and 60 , which I usually do anyway and very easy on the acceleration . The technician at the dealership told me the software upgrade was just released from Toyota last week .

I might need to move my oil change up.

Dang, mine's been awful since the update.

They must have erased the memory of the adaptive learning history because I had it shifting ok after 5,000 miles.

Now it's back to shifting aimlessly and gearing down to 4th on the interstate with cruise on....or off if I'm not careful.

Using more gas too, down about 2 mpg.

No transmission hesitation when cold though.

The adaptive learning was reset. It will relearn and improve again.

Mine has been great since the update. Im no longer thinking about the transmission. Just driving the way it should be. Haven't seen any difference in MPG.

Not sure it works that way. Mine was better at initial reset. Have noticed a few gremlins popping back up since then. About 1000 miles post TSB now. One thing is for certain the feedback on this is a little bit inconsistent but mostly positive

So is this something I can just take my truck into Toyota and get it done on the spot?

Best to make an appointment. I've had walk-in oil changes take three hours because the scheduled appointments took priority.

Maybe I missed it, but have you had them check your Transmission Fluid? Many were coming low from the factory up to 1 quart and some up to 2 quarts low. Low fluid can be an issue on ANY transmission!

It is a sealed unit and normally they'll have to keep it overnight so they can let it cool completely down and check it first thing in the morning in accordance with the appropriate procedure for checking fluid level on a sealed Transmission. Simply hooking it up to the computer (Tech Stream) is not enough. There are a couple of deluded posters here who will try to tell you Transmission fluid level does not matter, but they are wrong and have failed to provide any evidence to support their dismissive attitude and poor advice. I do not know their agenda, perhaps they work for Toyota, who knows. A quart or two quarts low might be impacting the lifespan of your transmission internal components, it could also be affecting the way it performs. I would push your dealer to have it checked completely and thoroughly. Better to be safe than sorry.

Here are a few links that speak to the importance of having a precise fluid level:
    A.http://www.titantalk.com/forums/tit...alf-quart-atf-makes-all-difference-world.html
    B.http://www.streetdirectory.com/trav.../transmission_fluid_levels_are_important.html
    C.http://www.broadwaytrans.com/blog/item/34-does-the-level-of-automatic-transmission-fluid-matter.html

Also GearCruncher is a known quantity here at Tacoma World and has extensive experience with transmissions. He has put together A TON of great information on this issue. When you get time, I recommend reading the entire 1st page of his thread on this: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...be-low-on-fluid-directly-from-factory.405642/

Don't listen to the naysayers (they are few anyway) and do your homework protect your investment!

 This is what TW is all about.

Mine will be rechecked (they did something with the computer when they checked my ATF - definitely worth having done) in a few weeks when I finally get my first oil change.

Wow, I had no idea about this issue. I read everything and first thing I did was call Corp and explained my concern. They gave me a case # to give to the dealer I made an appt with. I am super anxious to get this done so I am at ease that my $35k investment is going to last me 10 years. Only crappy part is that Im going on a 800 mile road trip tonight. This isn't going to sit well with me the entire trip imagining my transmission blowing up or something. lol

Again, thank you for pointing me in the right direction!

Just an update. Dropped my truck off at 9:45am today and got a call from them around 12:30pm. Got them to check my transmission fluid and they also took care of TSB 0077-16. I asked the service advisor if I was low on any fluid or not and he said that they didn't have an exact amount but it was lower than normal. Got to drive the truck a good 50 miles or so today while I ran some errands, and I already feel a noticeable difference in shifting pattern. Also putting the gear selector into D from P is almost instant now, while before there was a slight delay. All in all I am really satisfied with the outcome and how smooth everything went with my local Toyota dealership. Thanks again guys!

3 hours isn't bad. We stay booked 2 weeks or more out. Non-appointments are squeezed in when we have time.
