    An idea:

After we get the TSB update, if the improved shifting continues to degrade like some people are seeing after few hundred miles, it would interesting to see what happens if they reset the transmission learning cycle by disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes.

Then see if it goes back to the improved shifting feeling like after the TSB update.

Maybe we are just feeling the learning cycle vs a 100% fix.

I will try if/when my update degrades like others have experienced.

    What do you think?

    Just a thought.

I didn't get a sticker. When I picked up my truck at Courtesy the first thing I did was check under my hood & driver door for a sticker. Nothing! I asked the service writer about a sticker and he just gave me a strange look and said the Techs don't put stickers on the vehicles. The TSB was on my invoice & my truck feels better shifting & going into 2nd gear.

No sticker for me either. I watched the tech do the update, so I know it was done. It's on my invoice as well.

I think people need to realize the TSB only addressees the 3 items mentioned in the TSB and it fixed those perfectly. All this "my transmission has gone back to way it was" is just ignorance about what was fixed.
Nobody has seen the return of R to D delays, harsh 2-3 shifts or hanging 4th gear in cruise control or at least has not posted it. Took my second road trip today after getting the update a couple of weeks ago and the truck drives fantastic in CC. Less upshifting and never hangs on 4th gear.

If you don't like the way the truvk drives after the "learning" phase drive in S6 as that disables AI.

My truck has all the things everyone is talking about, it has 2500 miles so far. Cruise control is my biggest complaint, I haven't been back to the dealership yet to see about the update. Today I took the charcoal filter out of my air breather top, an went out on the freeway with cruise on where it normally downshifts 2 gears up certain hills. With that filter out it dropped 1 gear, an held it till I topped the hills, an then went back into high. Tomorrow going to work I will test out where it shifted 2 gears before, an see how it does now.

All this talk about the trans "learning your driving style" ... Is that really what's happening, or is it really learning driving conditions, whether due to driver or terrain. For example, using CC or not, my truck will do 4-5-4-5 shift cycles in the mountains. Accelerate in 4th, upshift to 5th either because of the grade decreasing or maybe I lifted a bit for traffic or a curve, then downshift again because it doesn't have the power to hold 5th. After a few cycles, it will just stay in 4th longer. Sometimes it's appropriate, sometimes it's annoying - I've lifted because I'm over the crest of the hill, but it just won't upshift. But it will shift eventually, and if the road levels off and it stops cycling for a while, it re-learns that it should upshift promptly. All is then good till the next grade, where it takes a while to realize that it needs to hold 4th gear. Sometimes I'm patient, and let it figure things out, sometimes I just put it in S4. That said, I think it's worse in CC, so if the TSB helps with that, I'd still like to try it. After 18k miles in just about every mountain range in the US, from below sea level in Death Valley to over 11K in the Rockies, I've experienced pretty varied behavior from the tranny.

I thought I was just crazy when I was experiencing these problems. I'm taking my truck to the dealership this Saturday. Hopefully they will correct this and not say they can't find anything.

There is another TSB that is hardware related.

T-SB-0053-16 June 2016. Howling or Whistle Noise from Front Lower Control Arms

Some 2016 model year Tacoma vehicles may exhibit a howling or whistling noise from the front lower control arms at speeds of about 25 – 45 mph. The noise may be more noticeable when cross winds are present. Follow the procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

The TSB just plugs holes in the control arms with rubber plugs so not related to this tranny issue, but I will still ask for it.

Still liking the update except for one thing, tires. It's hard not to leave two big black strips on the road, a good 40 yards long every time I take off. It's like a truck version of a Charger Hellcat! 3.5L of pure insanity now!

Really? Not being facetious, just curious if that is really possible the 3.5?

I did just that. I got the TSB and it was ok for a few days, then started to go south. I disconnected my battery for 30 minutes because I wasn't sure if the dealer did this as part of the TSB. Truck was good for a couple weeks then slowly started degrading again.

It's possible with a 3.5L - just need to add a couple of turbos and a lot of boost.

had mine done Sat morning. Put a couple hundred miles on it since then with towing and non towing. Obviously while towing and ECT enabled it acts the same as before since no changes were made to that part, but for driving around it does seem to be a huge improvement. Hopefully it won't degrade as some other have noticed. Take off is a whole lot better. It should have came from the factory like this.

Has anyone asked if the update is reversible?

I am headed to Courtesy Toyota Brandon/Tampa now.

Just got my 4th Toyota truck and this new one is doing the same thing with the delayed park to drive and harsh upshifting so I will take the TSB with me when I get my first oil change. thanks for the information.
