I was wondering if anyone knows of a company that has or is working on a tuner for his engine?

I figure with the Atkison cycle designed in this engine it would be difficult to tune but I figured we should have a lot of options in tunning when a company does get a tune done.

There is a real high probability of this never happening,If it does happen you are most likely in for a long wait.Toyota doesn't make it easy.

i watch the weekend power nation and power block TV shows and they were at some shop that did high tec tuning on new vehicles. i e-mailed that shop and asked about 2016 tacomas they said they can not tune them. so much for that thought..

Someone in Cali should contact GIAC engineering in Irvine, CA

Garrett did tuning on my VW custom in the 90s ... they may not want to mess with Toyota but worth it to ask. Maybe they know someone that does work on Toyota. There's some pretty nice cars with this engine in them.

with all honesty it should be doable. maybe not crazy power, but know lexus' make more power with same engine... "In the Lexus GS350 the engine specifications are 232 kW (311 hp) at 6600 rpm and 380 N·m (280 lb·ft) at 4800 rpm respectively."

Does not matter if it's the same motor. A trucks engine is tuned for payload carrying capacity and towing.

It's not a true Atkinson cycle engine. Atkinson is only engaged by using the VVT cam timing a certain way. Otherwise it runs the same as a normal Otto engine

Why I mentioned Garrett tuning.... they know how... question is WILL they do it. How do you know the ECU is encrypted?? ECU is probably in some sort of machine language that doesn't "look" like traditional code, it has to be flashed in and out - when flashing out then put data thru an interpreter and vola - code to work with... edit code then back thru interpreter to machine language and flash to ECU.

No expert here but I've seen it done this way in person.

Not saying we can tune it. Was implying swapping ecu and related harnesses.
you take your tacoma ecu and throw it in the garbage, swap in heads and "tuned ecu" from a gs. granted it isnt that easy and very expensive but if someone wants to donate a running gs350, ill find a way to keep most functions. think engine swap with short block staying

it certainly can be done, but does it make sense from a company standpoint? how many of these can they sell? how much profit can they make per unit? if the answers to those questions make sense, someone will develop a tune for it. odds are since less people are interested in tuning a small truck for max hp(less usable torque), they would need to charge more per unit. by charging more per unit, less people will buy it. see where im going? they can tune a frs, they can tune a lexus. yet somehow the tacoma comes with an unbreakable tune? i doubt it

just saying i bet the ecm is written in a similar language as the similar 4U-GSE with d4s. not that you could ever break into one of those though.... http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29340

and before anyone says thats a horizontally opposed 4 banger, i know. but the code was done by toyota and has a lot of similar hardware
