Best Ipod solution?

So I'm looking for the best way to integrate my iPod into my 05 tacoma. I've seen the PA15-TOY mentioned several times but for 150 stones I might as well buy another head unit with more features right? Another option I am interested in would be a double din dvd player that can connect to the iPod. Only problem with this is my price limit is ~$300 so I have to stay towards the low end. Has anyone had any success with this? I would appreciate pictures because I also want to see how it looks. Thanks in advance for your help.

 

so u want to be able to control ur ipod with out actually touching it right? the cheapest and most effective soultion i found is kensington's liquidAUX. Atleast thats wut worked for me. i can play/ pause, skip tracks and it charges my iphone.

anyways my fav without having to modify anything.

 

Those sound like good solutions but are they better than getting a new unit for $150 with bluetooth, usb reader, hd radio and some other goodies?

 

i had an isimple fm transmitter for my ipod and was installed and worked well
i took it out because i got a new headunit for christmas.

and now im lookin to sell it

There are actually new FM transmitters that are actually hard wired. I was looking at buying one for my girlfriends Acura MDX. You unplug the FM antenna wire from the back of your radio, plug the FM antennae wire into the interface unit, then plug the interface unit into the FM antennae jack on the factory radio. It eliminates any of the static and interference you would get from a traditional FM modulator and gives you great sound quality. They range between $80-$150.

Personally I would buy an aftermarket headunit. Especially if you plan on upgrading your stock speakers or adding a sub in the future.

 

If it's hardwired, it's not an FM transmitter. It's just a line-in that uses the FM jack.

I'm debating the same thing. $150 for an adapter or just wait and save for a full deck. I'm just not super excited about loosing the bluetooth and steering buttons of the stock JBL system. So if I do change decks, then I still need adapters of some sort...

 

I installed the Harmon/Kardon Drive-n-Play system in mine. It can be used as a FM tunable or a input jack device. Cool little controller which can be mounted almost anywhere. I mounted the display up next to the rearview mirror. The pod is in the passenger glovebox out of sight.

 

I think the Grom V2 something something may be what your looking for. There is a write up on it, but I think the OP used the V1 (the OP also sold it, I was asking in that thread a while back).

I may be getting this sometime soon, or my little cousin may (when he gets his sorry ass back to CA, damn vegas.. n.m).

 

So can anyone tell me if the Grom interface will allow for full volume?
The setup that I have now has REALLY POOR volume. I have to play at "Max level" to get it loud enough to barely get any decent sound.

I'd say that my setup puts out about 1/2 the volume of using the aux jack.

 

For the price, you'll get more bang for your buck with a new HU, and it will sound a thousand times better. The stock radios suck.

 

Whats the best HU for looks and for integrating the iPod?

the one before this didn't let you do that. I have the same adapter that you have and it SUCKS!!!! It an upgrade I think, my taco came with it, but man I wish I would have just gotten a headphone jack connection instead.

 

No cheap dvd player recomendations?

The wheel in the middle controls the radio and iPod just as you were using an iPod itself. It looks great and has a full color screen. The wire you see there is because i hadnt strung it through to my glove box yet. But i love this HU. I think its a great option if you want to play your iPod in the truck

 

I liked that one except for the fact it didn't have an front aux port

 

why do you want the front aux port?
