Hows the gas MPG on the 2016 Tacoma with the V6

The US system really isn't that difficult to understand.

Not sure how being different from the rest of the world would help. And yes I live in toronto so what? Here we use both metric and imperial since we trade with the US so much. But its only a matter of time before you guys finally join us.

Hell your electrical code looks more and more like ours every update.
With us trading so much it would be much better if we both used the same things. Would save time from mix communications.

That being said we should join the US in using the 277V/480V system. So much safer than 347V/600V

its easy if you grow up with it. but its not a great system. its just a system we already know. metric, base10. easy. look at Celsius. 0 is freezing 100 is boiling. stupid easy.
we are just lazy and dont want to make the change.

Not sure what your base is for suggesting you should remain on the English system of measurement. The US Auto Industry converted years ago, as has the medical industry to name two of your major industries. Virtually all your exports go out in the metric system or they don't sell. There is nothing special about "Made in America" anymore. I do admit though if you are exporting moon buggies they may have American Standard nuts and bolts but then they really are not a big seller I would not think.

In any event 30 miles per Imperial Gallon is way more than I would have expected from a six cylinder engine attached to a 4 wheel drive truck. Well done Toyota and the folks in Texas who built my truck. My wife's Toyota Avalon gets about the same mileage with an older six in it. Made in St. Louis, MO. Hats off to those workers who made for me the best made car I ever owned.

There really isnt an objective reason why metric is better. Your example is purely arbitrary just like an inch is the average size of a thumb or a foot is the average size of a male foot. There are plenty of examples where metric is less intuitive and vice versa.

 

Except drug dealers/users. They're a bunch of idiots and yet they can use the metric system just fine.

I think a foot may have been the length from the elbow to the end of the fingers of an old King of England or was that a yard?? LOL I could be wrong but wasn't the US gallon derived from the litre. Seems to me back in the day the local dairy folks decided to short change the unexpected by reducing the size of the Imperial Gallon to extract a few extra coins from the local consumers. The French had some influence in all of this being you were the benefactor of the little tiff England was having with the French at the time of the US Revolution. I may have my US history wrong, it has been a few years since we covered the US history in my Social Studies Class.

Its just industry standard (Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Gulfstream, etc...)
Metric units aren't special units, they are just units.. they can be read in English or metric whatever is necessary. And most if not all US based facilities that produce items are tooled and set up to work with English Units.

If you have an advantage to use metric use metric, if you have an advantage to use English use English its that simple.

If run a company that produced products in a country where vendors and suppliers sell in English units (lbs, feet, inches, etc.) Then English is going to be the way you go. Vice versa for metric.

Our money/currency is already on the metric system (10 dimes equal a dollar, ten tens equal a hundred, etc), it would be easy to switch, hardly any mind reprogramming would be necessary....the country was supposed to be completely metric by the year 2000....stupid, we should join the rest of the world....

 

Pretty much like paranoid said though its what you grow up with.
Here we end up using both though.
Ask someone in canada how much they weigh or how tall they are majority of the times they'll use ft and lbs.

You're backing imperial because you were taught it and are used to it. talk to any european and they'll think you're crazy. because they only use metric. I agree the imperial system takes common things as a basis, but its not as precise as metric usually will be.
And it causes a lot of miscommunication. Imperial seems much more based towards the layman's use. Where the metric system is more scientific as everything is based on 10s.

I'm sure NASA now uses metric since they're on the ISS where everyone else will be using metric.

Yep NASA had to do that and it was a smart move on their part. NASA absorbs a lot of Engineers, Scientists, Academics from around the world. Asking them all to adopt an English unit system would have been a bridge too far and caused more headaches than its worth.

 

I'm averaging around 20 mpg, mixed driving. I'm happy with it.

 

20 mpg City and 23 Hwy. 23 hwy is doing 75 mph on flat land. That's better than my 07 Sport I had.

 

Running 265/70/17s with a leveling kit and a little extra in the rear to give it more rake and i'm averaging 17.5 after 2555 miles. Haven't gone on any long trips so no good idea about highway. I do use that ETC button a lot, I really enjoy how responsive it is with it on but I heard it lowers MPGs slightly.

 

Took a trip to Orlando, 1150 miles. Consistent 72mph cruise at night. Went up to 24.6 at one point but 24.1 was what it was at most of the trip.

V6, no mods
