I was contemplating putting the winch on a hitch and bringing it along when possibly needed so as to not have to deal with the added weight. After some thought, I decided on the permanent placement. And yes, it's more for the 'just in case' as opposed to a frequently used tool. I'll look into the M8000 a bit more.

Yeah they are some really high quality stuff. I was impressed with the thickness of the metal and my bumpers ability to hold up to a 12K lb winch. When most only rate theres for 8K-9K lb

 

Similar to the C4, I ended up going with the SSO Slimline. Very minor differences and both great looking bumpers!

I have a Superwinch Terra 45. Fuse/solenoid, etc. are mounted in weatherproof 4" square pvc junction box mounted with the winch on a short piece of 2" receiver tube. Connects with quick disconnect jumper cables. The control box also has battery posts on either side for standard jumper cables. Can be used on any vehicle that has a 2" receiver. I've used and abused it for years with zero problems. Their wireless controller is awesome! They claim 50' range, I get 100' easily, through woods, terrain. I wouldn't be without it.
