I've been offroad plenty in the Nevada desert and no issues at all. *knocks on wood // but really, I'll be swapping them out for some general grabbers after i wear these tires down to min.

sure bulletproof vest are made of kevlar but its woven in a specific way.
want to know how great kevlar is? go buy a pair of your average kevlar gloves and take a box cutter to them. Let me know how great it is ok?


Please do not hold me accountable for your injuries if you actually do that lol. Kevlar only does something if its layered enough and woven properly. If I remember right though Kevlar was originally developed for tires. Not sure its meant to help punctures though. I think it was supposed to be a lighter alternative to steal belts.

 

Kevlar is used a lot in high performance clutches too

 

I really like the tires. My main reason for liking them... they are well mannered on the street. As far as hardcore off-roading, you may need a more rugged ply system. For most trail fun, they work just fine.

 

I'm not a fan so far, I have 2 with chunks of rubber missing and all 4 large bulges on the sidewalls.

 

They have got to go. I am going with Nitto grapplers They look a bit more aggressive I will sell my Goodyears before the winter. Any one interested

 

I think there nice on the road also. And I'm towing a small open trailer no problems. And for me in Florida off road there fine for now. I'm going to run them down before I get tires.

You ask for thoughts on it yet everyone that says they like them you praise because they share your opinion, yet everyone that says they don't like them you interrogate and insult just because they don't like them?

Its a factory tire. All factory tires are usually shit. They wont give you a good off road tire from factory because a good off road tire will likely kill your MPG. No dealer will purposely sell a vehicle that will get shitty MPG because of tires. It will cost them more with EPA taxes and such.

Very few auto makers release vehicles with good tires from factory. Even some of the higher end cars still use shit tires. Until you get into S class Mercs, M series BMW, S line Audis you'll likely get a shitty tire. Even then many will release it with a decent Pirelli tire but still nothing like a michelin pilot super sport.
Hell even a car like the Golf R, $46K car comes with shitty continental tires.
Its a dealer, dude if you read the fine print on your warranty and if you're on a lease taking your vehicle off road can void all of it. Just like insurance companies won't cover you if you total your truck wheeling. In the dealers eyes you shouldn't be bringing the truck off road, so no shit they aren't going to be giving you a great off road tire.

Why do so many people always bring up shit like this about factory components? Whats next, I went wheeling and my suspension sucks?
Its a fuckin factory build. Its built to cater to road safety standards and epa ratings. Not what the name actually is. Sure it comes with a locker and a bit better suspension. But its not built to go tackle a hard trail with rocks mud deep ruts and water crossings. hell without a diff breather kit you'll likely cause problems eventually doing water crossings with it if its deep water.

If you like the fuckin tires keep them
If you share the opinion with many on here that they are shit tires get rid of them. I'm sure there's a sucker out there that will buy them from you too.

I think anyone that has something bad to say about them just have some hidden dislike towards Goodyear. I was one of these people and have been impressed with them, especially in snow. Mud traction is pretty poor but it's not an aggressive all terrain tire.

 

I've Ben researching the Falken wildpeaks they have really great reviews. they look like the way to go. High ratings on road plus wet. And High Ratings for sand and mud. Looks like for me an Awesome Tire for Florida!!

 

I've warrantied goodyears 100:1 to all other brands combined.

 

I also think that they've sucked largely, but there's nothing wrong with these tires.

 

It all depends on the use they are putting them through.
I'm sure for road use and snow they're pretty good.
But most people going off road will be getting into mud, rocks, fallen trees etc and they probably won't hold up that great.
Its probably a mix of it. Some are expecting them to be great tires because the factory put them on it, thinking factory build actually gives high quality tires, others are using them with high expectations and being let down.

If you compare them to a Cooper or BFG they'll obviously perform poorly in the off road use.

Like Aussie said though, I have a few friends that work in tire shops and I always hear negative things about goodyears. Lots of issues with them with excessive tread wear, bulging and puncture prone.

 

I like the Goodyears. They are smooth, quiet, and responsive.

I only do light off roading so they are good enough for now. I was on the fence about getting k02s but in order to get a C rated tire I would have to get new wheels(c rated only come in 17 inch). Otherwise it would be a big heavy E rated tire that's more pricey.

That and I decided not to drop anymore money into this truck since it has so many problems.
