I admittedly use to sit in my Ranger and envy the Tacoma in front of me. Not that my Ranger wasn't useful, I just liked the Tacoma. Well I bought a Pre Runner in July and I love it. Just installed a back up camera for @ $100. Very Pleased. And then it rained....
I can't believe that are no intermittent wipers on this truck! Anyone have any leads?

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
SR5 and up have 'em. I believe you can retro-fit.

Edit.... Whoops. Not sure about 2nd Gen. You said bought, and I heard bought new.

I'm hoping it's just a plug and play upgrade. Not really interested in spending
    $120 + from a Toyota dealer

I bought my switch from a guy on this site. Can't remember who but if you Google this issue you're bound to find the thread he's in.

Very easy to do, there is someone on TW that sells them. It was one of the first mods I did on my PreRunner.

What model tacoma did you get. Sounds bare bones.

My base model PreRunner did not have cruise, backup camera or the intermittent wipers. I installed the wipers and bought the cruise stuff (still waiting to install it since I messed up my back) and I don't really want a backup camera. Still has everything I needed like the V6, AT and AC. Radio sucks but from what I've read that's typical across the board.

I upgraded mine to part number 84652-02710 because that drove me nuts too. It is really a plug and play upgrade, but I paid about $120 for mine. I bet someone that knows who sells them here will show up soon.

This is the best upgrade I made to my Tacoma, with the backup camera and cruise control being close behind.

I believe I'd just go with an aftermarket upgrade instead.

My base 2.7L did not come with intermittent wipers or cruise control. The wipers was either off or fast, no slow delay for light drizzle rain. Had to manually flip switch and it drove me nuts. I thought you had to buy X-runner intermittent switch to have it on the 4 bangers? Well, good thing I upgraded to the DCSB 4x4.

You didn't notice when you bought the truck?

I was 19 when I got my first Tacoma, a 06 reg cab. I don't think I noticed at first. The other cars I had before had cruise & intermittent so I didn't think to check for that.

I bought the intermittent wiper switch for my 2014 regular cab, and am on my second Entune upgrade. I went from base to HD to HD with navigation. It is an easy swap. Make sure you also get the navigation antenna. It fits under the dash. If you want Sirius / XM, then you need the shark fin antenna, or a non-factory antenna you can mount inside the truck.

Unless it was raining during my test drive, that's not something I'd notice or think to look at - I would just assume it came with it. Hell, even on my OR package there were a number of things that I would consider basic that were not included and I didn't notice until later. Auto-up driver's window, temp/compass in mirror, height-adjustable seat, power rear window, better sound system than a base model Prius, and I could come up with more. I love my truck, but they sure don't come with many frills.

Easy upgrade. I bought my switch from TRDParts4U.com. They even gave me a call when they saw the VIN that I entered did not indicate a truck with intermittent wipers, to make sure that I was doing an upgrade and not purchasing the wrong item. Easy to install. Lots of threads here and YouTube videos to show you how. Took me longer to find the screwdriver than it did to do the install.
