Reset SRS light

How do I reset the SRS light on a 2012 Tacoma. I had blown he 7.5a dome light fuse. I removed the 7.5 one beside it and used it to be sure that was the problem. After replacing the blown fuse the SRS (airbag) light is on. How do I reset it.

 

Try disconnecting the battery for 15-30 minutes and see if that will get it.

Sorry medic2230 but that did not work. Light still on. I don't think it is a problem with the airbag system itself. I was checking how to add lights to the dome light and blew the fuse. After replacing it the warning light stayed on???

 

Did you check all fuses? 2 fuse boxes in engine bay and one behind the coin tray.

Judging by these threads, you can't just reset the light and there's an issue. You can get a Bluetooth reader on Amazon and the Torque app and read the codes it's throwing which will help you narrow down the issue so you can fix it yourself. If not, just go to a dealer.

So you've hooked up a code reader and it's not pulling codes?

 

Those code readers won't read air bag faults.

SRS faults don't need a battery pull or code clear to reset. Fix the issue and the light goes away.

Weakest link is always connectors, ribbon cable is the next culprit.

Check connectors under seats first, they are usually exposed to trauma before any of the other connectors.

The SRS does a continuity check on every start. If everything is connected and there are no cut wires, the system passes the check and the light goes off.

Going by memory, but I thought 2nd gen Tacomas had a recall on the ribbon cable. Can someone else verify?

 

Spiral cable. Could be the issue but it happened after he did something. Coincidence? Maybe but probably not.

 

First thought, was wrong fuse for SRS, but I don't think those fuses are same shape.

If wrong resistance is detected, the light will come on.

 

I did have the rocker panel covers off. Could the air bag control unit be a problem. If so, what should I look for?

 

Rocker panels are no where near the SRS module. What are you calling a rocker panel? Please describe location.

 

I thought the module was in the center below the radio, right behind that little cubby beneath AC controls

 

The plastic covers along the door sill. There are bunch of wires going along the floor and covered by these covers. There is a unit with wires plunged into it bolted to the frame. TRW 89831-02040.

 

Correct. I don't think you had rocker panels off. They are on the outside of the truck. No biggie.

Im guessing you had kick panels trim pieces off. If they were near the SRS module, you could have unseated a connector or cut a wire. I'm leaning towards a cut wire. The connectors on the module are very robust. They are 2 step connector. Almost impossible accidentally disconnect.

Just unhook battery, make a quality soldered repair and reconnect battery.

Do your best work. Air bags save lives and we keep our Toyotas long term.

 

I'd just disconnect the battery and bust out the soldering iron and heat shrink. It's just wire after all, but you want to make sure you do it right.
