Hey guys, what do you think of this price for this build? I am wanting a 2017 DCLB 4x4 TRDOR + tow only. MSRP is $37,114 and dealer quoted me at $35205.00 plus tax and dealer fee of 499.50. Good deal or no?

That works out to $1,409.50 below MSRP inclusive of all fees. I achieved $2,700 below MSRP inclusive of all fees with a few more options.

Whether you can squeeze another $1300-1500 out of them depends on your market conditions. I had dealers claim that nobody was discounting the 2017 TRDORs while I was sitting with substantially discounted quotes in hand.

Did you get quotes from a bunch of dealers to get them competing?

That was their first pitch to me. They dove directly into MSRP. Funny though, when I called them dealer told me up front they don't deal hardly on these DCLB's. Looks like there could be more wiggle room. Perhaps if I showed up with paperwork showing I am ready to deal with money.

See my post #332 here. Email all the other dealers but this one if these guys are who you'd like to work with from a convenience standpoint. Return with your two best offers printed out. Be prepared to put a deposit down if they hit your number. That'll get things rolling nicely, or they'll say they don't want to play. In which case you shake their hand and go take the lowest offer you got somewhere else.

Thanks for info. Another factor in my buying process is I'd have to order my truck since it is a somewhat rare build. Does that give them leverage?

Actually, it gives you leverage / removes their leverage. The worst position for you would be having wrecked your current vehicle and being in a "must-buy-right-now" situation. Then you're limited to who has what you want sitting on the lot, and whomever figures out they have your preferred config has the greatest leverage over you.

Instead, you can order from any dealer you're willing to drive to. Even out of state if you're willing to handle the paperwork and pay the taxes out of pocket instead of wrapping them into the loan. Even out of territory if you're in GST or SET and a reasonable drive to somewhere else.

With all that said, in ordering a config it is kind of nice to do that with a local dealer if there's one you like, but not a big deal to do so with someone three hours drive or even a plane ride away if they make it worth the travel.

The numbers I cited for my deal were for factory ordering a truck. As it turns out my dealer found one coming in sooner that they can make work by swapping the OEM tonneau and associated bits from a truck on their lot. I'm a little skeptical but know what to look for before taking delivery, and even if I later find something they're close to home.

It would have been more if I qualified for the student rebate of $750... I graduated May 2014. They would have given me the rebate on a 2016 but not the 2017 unfortunately.

Your deal makes zero sense to me. Did you still owe money on your trade? I have a hard time figuring out how you got a $41,5XX truck OTD for $40,500 with $3,800 off and $7,800 in trade and still $2,200 in tax?

So the other dealer provided me with a dealer invoice price list:

This is for 2017 4X4 crew cab TRD OR

He says: "Dealer invoice is $38,031ad $1,000 profit and fee's would be a great deal for you about $43,000 OTD".

Could someone give me your thoughts on this?
    How trust worthy is this?

How do I further negotiate with him?

    Thank you.

Those numbers look pretty accurate. Are you trading anything in? $43 OTD seems close. What are your taxes and fees like?

I'm in California, the sales tax rate in my area is 7.5%. I think the dealer has included fees into that $43000 he mentioned.

Yes I'm trading in a super low mileage civic 2012 with good condition.

Would you call it a good deal?

Is there any equity in the Civic? There has to be fees and taxes included. If there is no equity, negative or positive, that doesn't seem like too bad of deal but it doesn't seem like a great deal.

I have not discussed the trade in with the dealer yet. Guess it'll bring the price down a little bit more?
