??Leather Seat install help Needed- Questions??

I purchased the leather seat covers from Katzkin, and there are some "straps" on the inside of the front seats. Does anyone know what they are for?


I figured they are for the airbag system but not sure exactly what.

I would like some ideas before I tear into the seats.

I recently did my leather install but I need to see a pic of what you're talking about

 

Here are 2 pictures of the straps. There is also a "pocket" sewn into the cover.

One buckle is black and one is white. They both have holes in them. The seat cover is turned inside out and the top of the cover is to the left of the picture.

 

Those straps go around the airbag - very important!!! When the bag deploys it shoots between those straps, splitting the trim and coming out of th seat next to you. Forget those straps and who knows where the bag will go!

When you take the existing cover off, it will make sense.

 

That is what I thought. I have done leather seats in one of my vettes, but it did not have side airbags.

I still need to get the hog ring pliers and rings before I start the job. The weather should be good tomorrow so I might start then.

Ya i just finished mine tonight and the straps are pretty straight forward once you get in there. One goes through a slit in the front of the seat and the other goes around the outside of the seat and they share a bolt on the back of the seat.

 

You should post some pics. I already did the head rest and the front pair sucked duck nuts.

 

Ya i'll post pics tomorrow. Haven't put them back in the truck yet. The back seats were easy compared to the fronts. And yes the front headrests were a real bitch!

 

The headrests: plastic bag and a shopvac shrinks the headrest, easily pull on the leather, turn off vac, pull out plastic.

Easy.

 

I actually used TY RAPS around the headrests in both directions. That shrunk it down enough to get the covers on then I cut the TY RAPS and pulled them out the bottom.

 

I've been thinking about heated leather seats...would be great to see a few pictures of your seat covers when you finish.

here are a few pics of that strap going around the seat for the air bags. it's a little bit when you hook them up your seat is inside out so you have to allow for it to twist once when the cover is pulled over so that the sit flat against the seat cushion without any twists. i took pictures of everything as i took the old seats off so that i had a reference when putting the new ones on

I did mine last March. This is the Liquicell leather that Toyota has installed. I bought the kit from another Tacoma owner who sold his truck before he had time to install it. I installed heat as well but still haven't permanently mounted the switches.

Very nice. Are you happy with the quality of the leather? Does it appear as if it will hold up better than the OE fabric?

Thanks for posting the pictures. I'm going to have to look into Liquicell leather.

 

It is definately a quality kit. It even came with pre-covered matching door panels.

We are going on a year so far and there are no signs of wear on the driver seat which obviously gets the most use.
