I had the same thing happen to me, a crazy sob speeding down a residential street and I stomped on it to not get smashed, absolutely no acceleration.

When I called corporate to create a case#. The nice fellow that took my information, asked ME if my Transmission fluid was low from the factory? I didn't mention the low trans fluid issue he did. I was calling to complain about our wonky shifting transmission's and start a case#. So somebody talking about it...

Dang man, thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely stay away from Manhattan. Problem will be I live in San Diego so I need to find a dealer local that knows their stuff. Any other San Diego members know of a quality service department? Thanks for the help!

I struggle with understanding how something software related like this TSB doesn't apply to everyone. Either the software from the factory is good or not regardless of how it drives. I have to drive it from Manhattan Beach down to San Diego where I live though, so that should be plenty of time to see if there's any issues.

I personally think it is a band-aid to cover up serious problems with this transmission.I have very little confidence in the long term lifespan of it.

Unfortunately you may be right. I think that thought process is the reason behind really pushing for an extended warranty etc. I love the truck, I just don't want to be stuck on the roadway with a bad transmission like a bunch of other folks on here.

Anyone get the TSB done on a truck with a build date after July 14, 2016? Mine was built after and seems to work fine except for a slight delay from R to D, but only when cold and I can live with it - don't want to waste time at a dealership.

Usually.. "it only happens when cold", means the fluid is low until it warms up and expands...!! Have it checked for your piece of mine if you want to keep the truck long term...

I had the tsb done last week. The only symptom I had was a slight delay from R to D when cold. Although I did have what felt like a hesitation when hitting the gas a lot, that is not listed in the fixes I believe. I had no issues using cruise control.
I'll confirm that I was mostly happy before with the way the truck drove, I knew it could be better but I was ok with my truck for the most part. After the fact all I can say is it is a lot better and way more responsive now. Initially I met with a little resistance from the service guy but I changed my tactic from asking for it to asking them if they thought it would hurt having it done on my truck with only one symptom. Telling them I wanted to make a decision based on their opinion most of all. They went from confrontational to leaving it up to me to decide. I'm glad I decided to do it with their help. LOL.

Right, agree "it only happens when cold", thanks 'over60' for the suggestion, this was my first thought, but much to my shock it was not low, i checked it myself and am 100% confident i checked it correctly, here is my post on how I did it:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...on-fluid-directly-from-factory.405642/page-39
And thanks 'JoeyDel' - based on what you said i think i will set up an appointment to get the TSB done on mine, nothing to lose (except a few hours, which is worth it just to see if it works).

20160925_110726.jpg I was looking at pickups this weekend, drove in a Ford lot and found 2 used 2016 Tacoma's for sale with 8000 and 6000 miles on them. Found another used 2016 traded in at the Toyota lot with 6000 miles also. This was the only 2 lots I went to. Looks like people are dropping their Tacoma's fast. Having previously owned 8 or 9 Tacoma's and got stuck with a 2016 lemon I know why they're sitting in lots with 6000 to 8000 miles on them. Toyota needs to get their head out of their axx and fix the issues before they lose more customers! How sad, extremely die hard Tacoma lovers being stuck with poor performing trucks!

Great stuff 60Cal... the tsb will likely fix you right up and you'll love your Taco again...

I find it really hard to believe you were3 quarts low, that truck would have been slipping badly. Maybe .3 quarts or you now have a bigger problem of a transmission that's over full

They used 3 qts... so it may have been 2.5 and I was having a very hard time from P to R. It almost didnt want to go in. Youre free to believe what ever you want. I have the repair sheet with what they ordered.

Finally got my dealer to perform my TSB reprogram and they confirmed my transmission was "less than a quart" low on fluid. Took it in this morning for an exploded a/c blower motor and told them to check the trans again (They had it for 3 days at 1200 miles and claimed there was nothing wrong with it). Hopefully this renews my faith in this truck because my first Toyota experience hasnt exactly been grand.

Well, glad I marked my plug. It was never removed and the paperwork says they checked it and added 1 quart. I asked the service advisor and he insists that they have a machine they attach for the procedure and that it uses a different plug than the one I sent him a picture of with the nail polish unbroken. I sent him a screen shot of the page from the service manual that's posted on TW... then he offered to have me come in and the tech can show me what they did. I haven't decided if I'm going to bother or if I'm going to just go elsewhere.

They also didn't bother with the underhood label about the reflash, but I'm pretty sure they actually did it.
