I saw a dude in a side by side(of course) on the alpine loop just driving around the tundra and I yelled over, "hey, thats not the trail!" to which he replied with "I know." and a smirk. I told him to fuck off and go back to Montana(his tags told me that)

It just seems like a lot of the new residents here don't know how to properly treat the outdoors and how to take care of the areas that we're so gifted to have at our disposal.

Oh, I see. I have lived in thirteen states for a period of years across the board and Stay The Trail isn't really unique here. That is a fairly common rule across just about all states. I understand what you are implying now, that he probably didn't know any better, or didn't care which would tick me off as well.

I talked to a guy on Engineer Pass in a side by side with Montana plates and asked him how Colorado compared to Montana. He said, I dont know, Im not from there. He rented the side by side locally but it had Montana plates. Dont assume the plates indicate where they are from. I have been seeing a whole lot of rental UTVs, ATVs, side by sides etc with what appear to be newbies who dont know what they should or shouldn't do. Best to be polite when advising them and probably worth being tough on the rental companies to help ensure their customers are taught what not to do.

I am not saying that I havent done it, but all the offroad forums are filled with guys/gals taking pictures and posing their trucks on this rock and that rock, etc. Heck i see it in a whole lot of 'signatures' in people posting here But unless that scenic rock or ledge are part of the trail, you aren't exactly staying the trail. And, i realize that a motor vehicle isnt going to greatly damage a bare sandstone or granite rock. But the question to think about is what happens when 10,000 other people do the same thing? is it going to create permanent, but unintentional damage?

Hell....i even had a Jeeper bitch at me while we were riding motorcycles up around Georgia Pass/Webster for not staying in the trail. And she was right. Of course, her f*cking Jeep was stuck in the middle of the trail up to her axles in a snow drift along with someone else trying to pull her out. We simply went around them in the several inch deep snow on the edge of the snowfield. So while stay the trail is a good concept it can be difficult to apply at certain times and conditions. She was all proud of herself that she had been self appointed to be the good trail steward and tell people to stay on the trail. Unfortunately, I didnt get the opportunity to stop and remind her that if she was such as thoughtful trail steward intent on preserving the environment, why the hell was she up there on the trail when clearly the conditions didn't warrant her driving on them without creating additional damage. Funny how people can only see things from their perspective.

Didnt mean to send the thread off on some environmental crusade. Just meant to be a light hearted reminder to watch where you are driving when you are above treeline. I cant tell for sure its not the trail/road, but given the dropoff, i assumed it was not likely.

I was nice enough in warning him that he was off the trail, his attitude in his response is what bothered me.
You're not supposed to make a detour around someone off the trail so you're still out of line there, no matter how much the "self appointed trail steward" annoyed you. Snow bashing(on the trail), isn't really comparable to driving off the trail imo.
Don't know what you're trying to say there. Either way, we should all prob find another thread to BS about this in. maybe here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/jakes-06-solid-axle-swapped-dclb-eaf-bs-build.402972/

Natives hold priority and should be given a break on state income and/or property tax with a CO birth certificate.

I was thumbing through the Colorado Native rulebook, and Section II, Paragraph 3(C) states that anyone born or having moved to Colorado after 1963, hereby forfeits all claims and rights to view, occupy or otherwise use anything in the state. And, first rights to everything go to natives born before 1963 and having consecutively occupied CO since the year of their birth.

Good question. Glad I could clear that up for you.

    Now....get off my lawn!

Wow, if you couldn't pick up on all the sarcasm then this could turn political quickly. I am sure there would be Native Americans quick to flip this argument on its head as well. I'm not going to touch this one.

I actually have a draft letter that I plan to distribute to our wonderful state legislators indicating the possibility of a bill that grants State tax breaks to natives. I doubt it would go anywhere, as their compensation is probably tied to state tax revenues but it's worth a shot. If you never act on something you complain about, then you're nothing but a Youtube commentor. The only thing I have to thank the plague of transplants for is adding 3 Tacoma's worth of equity to my house...

I couldn't agree more with your taking action belief. Good luck with your proposition. Quite a few states offer numerous incentives for residents who contribute to their financial base. Having enjoyed the natural resources of numerous states at this point in my life, I respect them all but don't support birth rights.

By transplants, I assume you mean those who came to enjoy the marijuana?

There's a few Indian tribes that would like a word with you. :luvya: Seriously, everybody's a fucking transplant if you go back far enough. I get so sick of this elitist 'native' bullshit.

In other news, wrong thread. For both that subject and stay the trail.

    :stayontopic:

    Any more updates on availability?
    Just so's I can stay OT :D.

Oh snap lol thanks for keeping a guy honest! I have lived here for 12 years and firmly believe in “stay the trail”, “tread lightly” and “leave it better than you found it.” That being said, I am no saint. This particular photo was taken at the summit of north fork swan in summit county and is a common pull off spot to enjoy the view and reflect on the trail thus far with friends. It also gives others the opportunity to drive past and continue down, But like I said I am no saint and may have driven a little closer to the edge then most do.:anonymous: Again, thanks for keeping a guy honest. Ill do better next time :fistbump:
