I recently purchased a 2008 Tacoma regular cab 4x4 with 2.7 and 5 speed transmission. Something is making a rattling noise within the transmission area and after reading through some old threads, I'm having a hard time pinning it down.

Everything that has been posted about the "diesel" noise has been at idle. Mine doesn't do it at idle, only between 1500-2000 rpm and only when I let off the throttle or hold the throttle steady. It does not happen during acceleration.

Another thing that is different from other members is that once I drive about 5-6 miles, the rattle pretty much goes away. I guess once the oil in the transmission is warmed up, it alleviates whatever is rattling in there.

I took a short video to show what I'm talking about. The noises start at about 7 seconds in. Towards the end of the video, I hold the throttle steady and it makes the noise constantly.

Let me know what you guys think. The truck has 145k miles and the clutch seems to be ok. I get some chatter on cold starts, but it's not that bad. The only reason I would replace it at this point is if one of the bearings that is normally changed with the clutch would eliminate the noises it causing.

Can't tell anything from a video, but FWIW: There is a recall on the catalytic converter for rattling.

Thanks for the info on the recall. I did a quick search and it looks like its for 2010-2014.

Anyone else have any input on the noise? Would a throw out bearing get quiet after I drive it a few miles and the trans oil heats up?

If had some odd issues with my tranny, and did a full flush, and the problems went away.

Although I have the A/T if you suspect it might be something within the transmission maybe look into doing a fluid flush.
