I've become OCD with my truck (darn this site), and my bed and bumper are perfectly aligned. 2017 OR. And I was on a knee measuring and looking for any type of asymmetry. So, anyway, probably luck of the draw or vice versa. My cab mounts were incorrectly torqued, however....

I have this also . Mine is off by 1/2 in. side to side . The dealer service manage and tech checks 2 new 2016 tacomas on the lot and said mine was as good or better than the lot trucks. He might as well as told me they are all off , it is as good as it gets.

I just found a speck of dirt in the paint on the door of my truck when I was detailing it...
    I'm very disheartened
Ahoukd I head over to my dealer and tell them to give me a new truck?!

I took the full One Piece Flow training that Toyota is so noted for . It gives anyone on the assembly line the ability to stop production for any problems they see or encounter with a push of a button . What was never mentioned in the training is what happens when a person on the line stops the line too many times and the management deems that person to be too picky!
As a tool and die maker by trade (retired), I guess the tolerance for the box alignment was as long as both tires were even with one side or inside the wheel well during assembly , all was good. I did not notice mine being off until I installed my Sumo springs .

Dont let anyone on this forum fool you. $40k is a lot of money to almost every single person on this forum. Statistically, most people here make $54k/year annually for their household income, have less than $1000 in savings...

The reason people "say" that it isn't a lot of money is because they dont "feel" it. Loans are cheap. They are giving out 72-84 month CAR LOANS these days. Also, comparatively, full size trucks are ridiculously priced 50K+ (so 35-40K seems like a bargain). I think people just forget the value of money or have absolutely no concept of budgeting or living within their means.

If you want to follow best-practices you should spend 10%-20% of your income on a car--thats the total price you should spend. So for the average american household $5400-10800 on a car.

Obviously that doesn't happen (unless those numbers are way off and the average tacoma ($35K) purchaser makes $175K/year.

So people are using loans and stretching themselves. Thats obviously not true for everyone, but statistically its true for most people here. People saying 40K isn't a lot of money are 1. stupid 2. lying 3. very financially saavy 4. out-earn most americans by a factor of 2+.

Your statistically average person isn't buying a 40k vehicle and therefore doesn't fit the statistical household income or savings average. What an odd argument to be making.

    I didn't ever say 40k wasn't a lot of money
I said it wasn't a lot of money for a new car.
The average transaction for a new car is 33,560

I have the issue where my passenger tire sticks out further, maybe a 1/4 inch. My bed is lined up fine. I really don't think the wheel space difference is related to the misaligned bed. I'm perplexed though.

Check your tire pressures to make sure theyre the same and maybe even retorque your rear wheels. When the wheels are off you might even measure your tires. You might have more sidewall flex in one tire than the other.

40k is so much to me that I wouldn't buy a vehicle with a plethora of problems. 40k is some peoples salaries for a year. People make sacrifices to get this truck with the belief it will take care of them if they take care of it. Then get snowed with issue after issue.

Then they get ostracized for wanting the problem fixed or being upset. Toyota tells them they'll give them extended warranty when in reality they should just fix the truck instead of band aid after band aid.

Thanks for working in the school system. You guys def deserve more pay for sure.

why are people arguing about price? can we get back on topic?

I'm not trying to be argumentative but I really don't think the tire issue is solely related to a bed alignment problem. I've searched z web and found other discussions for prior year tacomas and tundras.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/one-wheels-sticks-way-out-wtf.381388/
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/wheel-sticks-out-on-right-side.141527/

    http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/61-2nd-generation-2005-2015/170488-crooked-rear-end.html

I am curious to see what the real cause is, regardless of whether or not this affects the truck in terms of mechanical function. And it would be nice if others wanted to investigate this instead of just shutting it down with "ur beds mis aligned". If our beds are out of alignment it would seem Toyota has been installing them in precisely the same misaligned manner for years, and on different models. I say this because in each case it appears the wheel is sticking out the same exact distance regardless of how aligned or misaligned the bed may be. Also, its always the passenger side. So again, Toyota would seem to be quite precise in their misalignment. What could be a logically explanation for this?

Pretty sure a live axel can move a little left to right over time depending on conditions and terrain the truck has been driven in

If they fix it, the truck won't go straight any more. Honestly they probably have the if it's not broke don't fix. Or so few are effected that it's not worth changing

I can understand how stuff like this happens at the factory. There is a certain amount of time on the line to get the bolts in and align the bumper and bed. Sometimes things go wrong and u have to get it done as best as can in the time u have. And who knows what else that person has to do. That being said, all the trucks should have enough time with the qc department after being built to fix these issues. If it gets to the purchaser and is noticed, it should be fixed by the dealer.

Do they put the frames on a giant conveyor belt and throw parts at them until something sticks? An unaligned bed is a pathetic mistake.

Toyota needs to move manufacturing back to Japan.
